  • Battle of Tippecanoe

    Battle of Tippecanoe
    William Henry Harrison arrived with his troops and fought against Tecumseh and his people. Harrison led his troops to victory at the end of the battle. The defeat convinced many Indians that they needed British support to prevent American settlers from pushing them further out of their lands. This event was significant because it destroyed the hopes of the Indian Confederacy so the British helped them out.
  • U.S. Military Tried To Cross Into Canada Again

    The U.S. were underprepared at the time but decided to go try attack Canada. The U.S. military suffered a humiliating defeat after Brock and Tecumseh’s forces chased those led by Michigan William Hull which scared Hull into surrendering Detroit without any shots fired. This event was significant because the U.S. forces wanted to get back at Great Britain so they decided to try and attack Canada which was then a British colony.
  • Another Attempt At Trying To Cross Over Into Canada

    General Henry Dearborn went to the Canadian border in order to attack Montreal, retreats to Plattsburg, New York when the militia under his command refused to cross the border, claiming that they are only required to fight to defend American soil. This event was significant because General Henry Dearborn wanted to attack Montreal but this time the militia under his command refused to go with him since they all agreed that they all would only fight to defend their land and not others.
  • US Naval Commander Oliver Hazard Perry captured a British fleet on Lake Erie

    Perry’s forces succeeded in choking the British supply lines on the strategic inland waterway. The British decided to attack the American ship. Shots were fired back and forth on the ships and many people died, but in the end the Americans won and got control of Lake Erie. This event was significant because we got control of Lake Erie at the end of the battle of Lake Erie and we beat the British at the end.
  • U.S. Military Crossed Into Canada

    The Americans got control of Lake Erie which forced the British and their Native American allies to abandon Detroit. They were defeated in the Battle of the Thames which Tecumseh was killed in. This event was significant because the Americans finally got control of Lake Erie which they wanted to in the first place.
  • Napoleon's defeat in Europe

    In Europe, Napoleon’s French army was crushed at the Battle of Leipzig. Napoleon was forced to retreat to Russia but sent a new but untrained army into battle against a coalition of European nations. Napoleon’s army suffered another defeat which forced his retreat back into France. This event was significant because this was Napoleon’s worse defeat and he lost a lot of men and many were captured.

    British attack Washington D.C. and burn the Capitol and White House
    The U.S. Navy had been able to score several victories over the Royal Navy in the early months of the war. Since the defeat of Napoleon’s armies, the British was able to turn its full attention to the war effect in North America. The British forces raided the Chesapeake Bay and moved in on the U.S. Capitol. This was important because after the defeat of Napoleon, the British decided to put all their attention to the U.S. so they raided the Chesapeake Bay and burned the Capitol and White House.

    Battle Of Baltimore
    Baltimore’s Fort McHenry withstood 25 hours of bombardment by the British Navy. The following morning, the soldiers hoisted an American flag which was a sight inspired by Francis Scott Key’s poem “The Star-Spangled Banner”. The British forces left the Chesapeake Bay and began gathering their efforts for a campaign against New Orleans. This event was significant because the poem “The Star-Spangled Banner” turned out to be the U.S. national anthem later in the future.

    General Andrew Jackson and his army turn back an invading British army. Andrew Jackson became a hero which later led to his presidency. This event was significant because Andrew Jackson led his army to victory against a British army which made the people think he was a hero. So later on he got elected to become president.
