The War of 1812 (British-American War)

  • America declares war on the United Kingdom of Great Briitain

    While this declaration of war was supported by quite a few reasons, the main reason was that Great Britian was abducting American seaman, and implanting them into their own Navy (the British Navy had many deserters due to their Impression Issue: forcing men into the navy to fight Napolean and the Americas). The British Navy also blockaded American trading vessels in order to search the boats for anyone suspected to be a deserter.

  • First Battle for Canada

    Unique Facts on CanadaThe American people had assumed that Canada could be easily overrun. Former U.S. President Thomas Jefferson dismissively referred to the conquest of Canada as "a matter of marching." However, in the opening stages of the conflict, British military experience prevailed over inexperienced American commanders. The American Brigadier General William Hull invaded Canada on July 12, 1812 from Detroit, with an army mainly composed of militiamen. British Major General Isaac Brock drove Americans back.

    In 1813, the American forces had a major win at the Battle of York and, consequently, burned York down.York is now known as Toronto.

  • Tecumseh Killed

    Tecumseh Killed
    Tecumseh, a Native American, strongly oppposed the spreading of America. As America was trying to 'invade' Canada, Tecumseh played a big hand in rallying together several different Native American tribes to oppose this movement. The death of Tecumseh at the Battle of the Thames was a great victory for America.

    In retaliation of Americans burning down their capital of York, Canadians sent in some folks to burned down America's White House.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The Treaty of Ghent marked the end of the War of 1812. Although some skirmishes happened after that due to lack of instant communication, the war is considered over at this point.
