The War of 1812

  • Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality

    Washington's Proclamation of Neutrality addressed the conflict between Great Britain and France. His speech announced that America would lie neutral in this conflict, even though we were supposed to have a treaty with France to come to their aid, we instead chose to stay to ourselves. In this Proclamation he addressed that any American aiding or providing assistance to this war would be penalized.
  • Jay Treaty

    The Jay Treaty was supposed to help with avoiding war between Great Britain and America. It was supposed to get British arms and military out of the forts on our soil, and this treaty split the country in half, and also angered France. There were many issues stated in the treaty that Great Britain were supposed to fix, or abide by, and per usual Great Britain signed the treaty and still did not follow the terms & conditions, just like in the Treaty of Paris, (ended the Revolutionary War)
  • Washington's Farewell Address

    Washington's farewell address was written for when he resigned from his second terms. It addressed the political parties and the people in them.
  • Chesapeake Leopard Affair

    A "Naval Engagement" that occurred off the coast of Virginia between British warship Leopard and American warship Chesapeake.
  • Embargo act of 1807

    The Embargo act forbade any trading with any foreign country. It was a means of trying to avoid conflict. We were going to boycott the countries until they agreed to take us seriously, when they still kept picking on us because the act never worked, we passed an act stating that we would begin trading with the first country who basically showed us some respect.
  • War Hawks

    War Hawks were people that supported the war. They believed that it was necessary and needed. A lot of them did not like Britain and belived that we should have gone to war with them two decades ago. They were angered by Great Britain and they were hoping that a war would start.
  • Tecumseh's War

    Tecumseh's War was a year before the War of 1812. Tecumseh was a Native American Chief that got along with the British. His tribe sided with the British, and were a tribe that liked to give America quite the headache. The war was about keeping Americans off of Native American Territory. Tecumseh's war lead into the war of 1812, and he ended up dying at the Battle of Thames which was a war including the United states against the British and Indian forces.
  • Impressment of Sailors

    The impressment of sailors was the main cause behind going to war with Great Britain. British impressment was when Great Britain would go to docks or onto ships, take men that could/would fit the criteria of a sailor, and forced them to be apart of the Navy.
  • War of 1812 Begins

    A war between the United States, and Great Britain. We were angered by GB picking on us. They seized our ships, encouraged natives to start problems and armed them, took our people and impressed upon them, and they also took our treaties as a joke and never actually followed through with them. The first battle was the battle of Tippecanoe.
  • Tecumseh's War a.k.a The Battle of Thames

    The battle of Thames was a battle fought in the War of 1812. One side was Natives siding with Great Britain, and on the other side it was the United States alone. The battle of Thames was an American victory. The three major things that happened in this battle were; American Victory, death of Tecumseh, and the Tecumseh Confederacy being defeated and falling.
  • Hartford Convention

    The Hartford Convention (Federalist Meet) was a series of meetings that lasted a little under a month, it was to discuss the concerns of the War of 1812, and how political matters were becoming a problem. In these meetings many things were brought to attention such as removing the three fifths compromise. Also some groups did not agree with the Louisiana Purchase, and they wanted to let people know and discuss it. They threaten to succeed from the country if they do not end the war.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    This was the peace treaty that ended the War. It was signed in Ghent, Belgium.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    The Battle of New Orleans was the last major battle of the War. It started December 14, 1814 and ended January 18, 1815. It was an American victory and it made British forces leave the Louisiana territory completely.
