Madison tryed to keep the United States out of war. Madison felt that the U.S should stay away from war. Madison was one of the people that helped write the Constitution. While Madison was in office Britian seized American ships.Madison claimed that the U.S wanted war with the Native Americans. -

The merchants wanted to restore trade with Great Britian. Members from the south and west congress called for war. the south and west were called War Hawks. The war was to defend American rights. -
