    President Jefferson had followed washingtons precedent and did not take a third term. His fellow republican had won office, and hoped to stay out of war. The american Citizens thought he was to timid. This results in a war with the natives.

    The warhawks were congressmen from the south west that wanted war. They showed strong nationalism, and thought the british treated the US like a colony still. Henry Clay was the leader, and they were willing to fight.

    The relations started to worsen when the british had blockaded american ports. They start to impress American seamen, a battle started out on may of 1811 and from there it started to worsen, we had killed 32 british. The british had started to prevent trade with France and the US.

    The US citizens had been exteemly upset with the British. Madison had started the war, congress had voted 79 votes yes on the war and 49 saying no. Senate was 19 yes to 13 no. The New England represenitives were concered that we were not prepared. Although many citizens were happy that the war had started.

    The americans were definatly not ready for war. Jefferson had cut funding for defence. We only had 16 ships for our navy. We had so few troops we had to bribe them with $124 and 360 acres of land.

    General Hull moved troops to Canada from detroit. Canada had very few troops but were led by General Isaac Brock. Brock used scare tactics and dressed the canadian troops in british uniforms, he had scared them off and Hull reatreated.

    Britian ships blockade US ports to stop trade with france. The US only had 16 ships we couldnt stop the british, our seamen were poorly trained. Although few of our sea captains still won some battles.

    Early in the war,Captain Isaac Hull of the USS Costitution had spotted the british ship Guerriere. After the battle most of the Guerriere was destroyed.

    Captain Oliver Hazard Perry had no fleet, so he made his own fleet. During the battle his first ship was destroyed so he swam to the next ship, they went on to win the battle.

    The battle had started after the battle of lake erie. During the battle Tecumseh the leader of the indian confederation had been killed, without him the indian confederation fell apart, although the creeks continued to fight. The british retreated and america won.

    It had first started out with the british marching to DC the Americans stopped them and attacked yet we had lost. They continued to DC. The British burt down the White House. Dolley Madison had gathered important papers and a portrait of George Washington.

    During the Battle of Baltimore Francis Scott Key wrote about the battle, after being bombarded over night our flag still stood. Later on the poem was changed to our national anthem.

    After the burning of washington the british move to baltimore. The British bombarded the harbor. Francis Scott key wrote "The Star Spangled banner" about the battle. The british withdrew and the americans survived.

    In december of 1814 the delegates from New England met in Hartford connecticut. Most were federalists and disliked the republican pesident and the war. They had threatend to leave the union.

    The treaty as written by John Quincy Adams, they had realized the whole thing had been a mistake. The treaty had not included anything disscussing impressment or neutrality, the other issues were finished later, but the pre-war conditions were restored.

    The american forces had waited for the british to follow their route through New Orleans, we waited wit expert riflemen on stand. When they arrived we attacked killing 2,000 british troops, the african americans had played a vital role in our victory. Only 7 american troops had died. America had won and General Andrew Jackson was a hero.
