    When the War Hawks took power Henery Clay and Jhon C. Calhoun lead them to create a War with Britain. People from New England thought that if they went to war it would weaken American trade. Soon after Britain told the United States that they would carry on inmpressing sailors. Finally in June Congress declared War on Britain.

    Relations with Britain were getting weaker and weaker due to War with Britain. Then Native Americans started attacking on frontier settlements. The War ended up co-insiding with Britains War against Europe.

    America is not ready for war, Americans started the war with confidence that they were absolutely going to win. But soon after they realized that they were not as prepared for war as they thought. There Navy only had 16 warships raedy and les than 7,000 men to attack.
  • Britain Blockades American Ports

    Britain Blockades American ports right on the first day of War. By 1814 the British had 135 ships blockading the American Ports. Then British thought of a better plan to reinforce the troops and Britain ended up closing off all American ports by the end of War.
  • Invasion of Canada

    Invasion of Canada, there was an Invasion in Canada when the war hawks demanded. Later on the American troops were lead through Detroit to Canada by General William Hull. Hull feared that he didnt have enough soldiers to fight and that he might have to retraet. So then the British commander General Issac Brock took advantage over Hulls worriedness by quickly surrounding Hull and his troops with British soldiers, himself, and Native American warriors. Brock forced them to surrender.

    The USS Constition scored a victory by defating British Warships in a strong battle. American Sailors thought of tradition and they nicknamed the Constition Old Ironsides due to the fact that British artillery fire sprung of the ships thick wooden Hull. The Americans were thinking as if the Constition was made of Iron.
  • Battle of Lake Erie

    Battle of lake Erie, after Americans went to War with Britain they decided that they would take on Lake Erie. The battle was 3 hours long and it took place at Put-in-bay in the Western part of the lake when the Battle was going on Americans flagship was horribly wreacked. The Americans commander Oliver Hazard Perry changed ships and presued War. The Americans Won the War!

    The Battle of Thames, General William Henery Harrison prsued the Americans to fallow the British to Canada. The Americans and British attacked Canada and defeated them during Battle. One of the Canadians who died was Tecumseh.
  • Battle of Horse Bend

    The Battle of Horse shoe bend took place in Georgia. Andrew Jackson was the commander of the Americans, Jackson and his troops defeated the Creeks in battle. There was a treaty that finished the War and forced the Creeks to give up tons of land. Won the Battle first started creeks to attack on Southern American settlements.

    The British new plan now was to attack Washingtons state capital Washington D.C. So British marched there. Dolly Madison was the Presidents wife she gathered up the Presidents important documents and papers. Soon after the British set a fire to lots of government buildings, including the White house! Americans were suprised they could not defend.
  • Attack on Baltimore & the writing of the Star Spangled Banner

    The attack on Baltimore started when British decided to attack after they defeated American in Georgia. British warships attacked the fort during the night. Francis Scott Key was a young American who watch the big attack. The Americans defended off attack Key wrote a poem about that night called the Star Spangled Banner and it became a song years later.

    A group of Federalists met in Harford Conneticut. Some of the delegates there suggested that the New England States secede from the United States. During the meeting while the delegates debated the, news of the peace treaty arrived. To some Americans the War of 1812was the "Second War of independence". The Harvord convention for some ended very quickly.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    The British ended the War During the treaty of Ghent. They made the treaty in Belgim. On Christmas eve the two sides signed the treaty of Ghent. The treaty turned things back to the way things were before the War broke out. News about the treaty took several weeks to reach the United States. In that time the two sides fought one more battle.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    American forces under General Andrew Jackson won a stunning victory of the British ata the Battle of New Orleans. Before this a treaty was made but took weeks to reach the United States so thats why the two sides battle once again.
