President Madison Helped write the constitution and pass the Bill Of Rights.
His Goal was to Keep the U.S out of War
People were mad because they thought they should stand up to Natives and foreign Countries -
War Hawks Take Power
-Most of The American were anti British.
-People from southern and Western U.S wanted War with British, those who thought that were called "War Hawks"
-The War Hawks had strong faith in their country, and saw some Advantages to war. -
Relations with Great Britain Worsen
-The fighting with the Native Americans caused American and British relations to worsen.
-British were trading guns with the Natives and encouaged them to attack the U.S
-They Continued to disagree about trade. -
Congress Declares War on Britain
-Relations with Britain keep getting worse.
-All shipments of goods to Britain were halted, creating more tension.
-War Hawks were urging Congress to go to War
-Finally On june 1812 Congress declared War on Britain. -

-Jeffersons spending cuts weakened the Military Power.
-Only 16 War ships were ready and prepped for Battle, while the British Had a large army and about 135 ready warships.
-The army was very small only consisting of about 7,000 men.
-The British set up Blockades on American Coasts. -

-Canadians led by Issaac Brock a Skillful and smart individual.
-Brocks scare tactic made Americans retreat from Canada. -

-For nearly an hour the U.S.S Constitution abd British Frigate Guerri`ere closed in on eachother.
-The The U.S.S Constitution fired a barrage that tore the Guerri`ere apart, while British cannon balls bounced harmlessly
on the U.S.S Constitutions hull. -
Battle Of Lake Erie
American Oliver Hazard Perrry, had no fleet, so he designed and built his own ships. He sent out on the 1st of September with a very small fleet going up against the British. The British left Olivers ships battered and helpless, until Perry took down the American flag, rowed to another American ship and raised the flag on that ship. After doing that many times the Americans finally won the Battle. -
Battle Of Thames
-The British retreated with there Native American Allies
-The Americans persued them into Canada
-Americans defeated British with Help from General William Henry Harrison -
Horseshoe Bend
-The Native American Creek Warriors attacked Southern settlements.
-Andrew Jackson defeaed the Creek warriors at Horseshoe bend.
-The Treaty that ended the fighting forced the Creeks to give up Millions or acres of land. -
Washington DC Attacked and Burned
-British had launched an Attack on Washington DC burning down Government building including the White House.
-Madison and and Many Americans were suprised their army can't defend Washington Their Capital. -
Attack on Baltimore
-British planned on attacking Fort Mchenry, which defended the Citys harbor.
-British was bombarding the fort through out the night of September 13, 1814
-At Dawn the American flag was still raised, the Americans had fended off the attack. -
Writing the Star Spangled Banner
-Francis Scott Key watched the British attack bombarding Baltimore throughtout the night of September 13, 1814. At dawn hestill saw the American flag raised in the air. So he wrote a poem on the back of an envelope called the star spangled banner, then soon it was reconized and become famous. -
Hartford Convention
-In December 1814 in Hartford Federalists had a Convention in Hartford
-Some deligates suggested New England states should withdraw from The United states.
-While they Debated news of the peice Treaty arrived, and the convention quickly ended. -
Treaty Of Ghent
-Britain had tired of War, Meeting Concerning peace had been going on, and the word broke out about the peace talks in Ghent belgium.
-The treaty would make things go back to the way they were before. -
Battle Of New Orleans
-British wanted control over New Orleans and use it to be able to go up the Missisippi River to get into the interior of America.
-Andrew Jacksons experienced army and the people of New Orleans dug trenches waiting for the on coming British attack.
-On January 8, 1815 the British attacked, over 2,000 British were killed and only 7 Americans Died. ANdrew Jackson Soon became a Famous historian
