    The morning of July 14, 1789, the Bastille, a prison that showed the power of the king, was attacked.This showed the king that his people wanted to fight back.

    Once the revolutionary spirit seized control of the people of Paris, people in surrounding areas began to demand cheaper bread and suspension of feudla dues. Civil unrest grew in the countryside, with many peasants attacking manor homes.

    France declares war on Austria. Austria was allied with Prussia, so France ended up fighting both countries.

    In the fall of 1792, hysteria, uncertainty, and fear gripped the city. Rumors circulated that the 3000 prisoners held in Paris prisons were planning to stage an uprising.
