Town mafia heard rumors of the King sending soldiers into Paris because of the National Assembly, so they stormed the local prison & took all of the weapons and tore it down with their bare hands. It only contained 7 inmates at the time of the storming, but it was symbolic of the people rising up and taking power away from the monarchs.

Robespierre was arrested and guillotined by the National Convention in 1794 for his involvement with the Reign of Terror. Over the next few days, about 100 other Robespierre followers would be executed the same way.
