    He believed people are naturally happy, tolerant, and reasonable. Also that government by consent foundation for modern democracy.

    Married Marie Antoineete. They lived extravagant angering the people of France. Was executed in 1793
  • Napoleon Bonaparte

    Napoleon Bonaparte
    Became comander of French armies in Italy. Fails to take Egypt in 1799. Crowned himself Emperor in 1804.

    An angry mob storms the Bastille to gain weapons. They take the prison and kill the commander, beginning the great fear.

    The National Assembly eliminated all fuedal dues and services.
    All men are equal and remain equal under the law.

    Foreign interventions threatened the Revolution. A mob marched on the Tuileries Palace throwing the royal family in jail. The Legislative Assembly felt powerless and voted itself out of existenc.

    Governing board of 5 men. Ened on 1799 when Napoleon took power.The national Convention wrote a new Constituion.
  • Napoleons Early Career/ Emperor

    Created the Napoleonic code. Began expanding France. Named members of his family as the rulers of the new territories.
  • Napoleons Defeat

    Growth of Nationalism. Defeat in Russia. Exiled to island of Corsica. Returned to France to take back control. Died in 1821
