    Napoleon attempts to conquer Egypt

    Napoleon attempted to invade Egypt in order to destroy Britain's trade with India. Napoleon seized an important naval base very easily and won the battle of the pyramids without losing too many men. Horatio Nelson, a British admiral, attacked and defeated Napoleon's navy, ruining Napoleon's hold on the Mediterranean Sea.
  • • Napoleon's coup d'etat, overthrowing the Directory

    In its simplist terms, Napoleon double crossed a government official he was working with to overthrow the former French Crown. Instead of giving the other official the power, Napoleon claimed power for himself.
  • Napoleon is declared First Consul

    After Napoleon's coup d'etat, he formed a new government based off of 3 seperate branches. He was elected first consul and later declaired himself First Consul for life.
  • Napoleon is declared Emperor

    After being elected First Consul, Napoleon decided to declare himself "Emporor Napoleon I" at Notre Dame de Paris.
  • Battle of Trafalgar

    A naval battle fought off the coast of Spain between France, Spain, and England. The English Admiral Lord Nelson defeated the French and Spansih fleets soundly, proving Britain's Naval supremacy at the time.
  • The Continental System is implemented

    The Continental System was a strategy by Napoleon to use his conquered nations to help defeat the British, The strategy was to block off British trade with all major European ports. This strategy ended up failing.
  • Spanish Nationalists help overthrow Napoleon

    After Napoleon conqured Spain and appointed his brother as King, the citizens had an uprising and helped the British take back Spain from France.
  • Napoleon is defeated in Russia

    France attempted to invade Russia, but the Russian troops burned or took anything of any use as they retreated from the borders. As the French followed, Napoleon's troops starved and froze to death. They ended up cutting their losses and headed back to France.
  • Napoleon is defeated at Leipzig (Battle of the Nations)

    Napoleon regrouped his troops in Germany as they retreated from Russia in order to try and take control of Germany, but Germany had a decisive victory over France at the Battle of the Nations.
  • Napoleon is exiled to Elba

    After Napoleon's many defeats, he was exiled to Elba and was forced to give up the French throne.
  • Napoleon is defeated at Waterloo

    Napoleon escaped from Elba and collected an army as he marched to Paris. He breifly regained control in the Hundred Days, but was defeated badly at Waterloo.
  • Napoleon is exiled to St. Helena

    After Napoleon's march to Paris, he was exiled to St. Helena where he lived for 7 years until he died at age 51.
