The Flow of Blood

  • When it starts

Deoxygenated blood flows into the right atrium of the heart through the superior and inferior vena cave
  • Flow in the right side of the heart

Blood then flows through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle
  • Blood leaves the right side of the heart

The blood then goes out of the right ventricle through the pulmonary valve and into the pulmonary artery to travel to the lucgs.
  • Blood re-enters the heart throguh the left side

The pulmonary vein then carries the oxygenated blood back into the heart from the lungs. The blood enters the heart into the left atrium.
  • Flow in the left side of the heart

The blood in the left atrium flows into the left ventricle though the mitral/bicuspid valve
  • Blood leaves the heart

The blood leaves the left ventricle through the aortic valve into the aorta and into the rest of the body to deliver oxygen
