The Fight Between the Pope and the Emperor
In 1054 Henry IV and Gregory VII was having a fight between each other because the Pope ban the practice of lay investiture. The fight was really heated, but the German princess was helping the Pope and they were freeing Henry IV subject from his rule so know that he knew that he was force to make peace with the Pope. This show that their moving forward to become nation states because the were trying to become independent from someone else law. -

In 1179 Philip ii became the king of France and with that to ensure that people will follow him in the government he paid middle class officials who are now in-debt to King Philip ii. Through diplomacy and war he gain control over English ruled land. With Philip becoming King of France, during his rule he made a step toward nation states because tried to strength the government so he can insure that he will stay as the king and pass laws that he want to. -

Louis IX was a very religious man that persecuted heretics and Jews. He also led the French knights in two Crusades against the Muslims. During is rule he expanded the royal courts and outlawed private wars.
