  • Calculator

    Calculator
I still remember how excited I was the first time I saw a calculator--I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen!
  • Atari game console

    Atari game console
My brother loved to play games on the Atari. I remember playing a few games with him, but our selection was pretty limited.
  • Boom box/cassette player

    Boom box/cassette player
I always wanted a boom box with more than one tape deck because you could record from one tape to another. They took up so much space, but it always had an honored place in my room.
  • Desktop computer

We had a desktop computer that we could use to type about a page of text or play simple video games. My favorite game was Montezuma's Revenge.
  • Walkman

I was so excited when I got my first Walkman as a Christmas present. It was always frustrating when the batteries had to be replaced.
  • VCR

When I was younger, we did not own a VCR. We had to rent a VCR every time we rented videos, and it was always a treat when we were able to watch a movie more than once.
  • Adding machine

    Adding machine
My father always had an adding machine on his desk, and he used it every time he was working on financial information. I remember the sound of the adding machine, as he was sitting in his office balancing the checkbook.
  • Electric Typewriter

    Electric Typewriter
We used electric typewriters when I was in high school. I was excited when I started using one that had correction tape built in.
  • Fax machine

    Fax machine
I still find it absolutely amazing that I can send files through a fax machine. I still use faxes in my job today when I request information from doctor's offices.
  • Overhead projector

    Overhead projector
I used an overhead projector for the first few years of my teaching career. I always had to be careful to use the correct markers when writing on the overhead project sheets.
