95 Thesis
In 1517 Martin Luther posted the 95 Thesis on the door of the Wittenburg Cathedral. The 95 thesis had the belief that humans may reach salvation only by their faith and not by their deeds. This officially started the Protestan Reformation. -

Religious war between Roman Catholics and German Protestants. This was also the first time that the Protestants were backed by the government and the Catholic Church lost some of their power. -

Catholic leader of Bohemia starts to limit the kinds of religious beliefs that are allowed by his followers. Protestants under his rule start to seek help from other protestants. The Second Defenestration. -

The Protestant Danes were challenged by the Catholics. The Catholics success led to major victories and put the Catholics at the height of their power. -

Swedes enter the war under the rule of King Gustav II as protestants. King Gustav II dies in the battle at Lützen but the Swedes are still able to win several battles against their Catholic enemies. -

French Phase
The Catholic French fight other Catholic countries to gain more power. At this point in the war there are way less religious motives and instead political ones. -
Treaty of Westphalia
The Treaty of Westphalia officially ended the 30 years war creating peace in Europe.
