    Research Thriller task
Everyone of us in our group created a Thriller research powerpoint. In theese powerpoints we explained the typical features of a the Thriller genre. For example the codes and conventions of a thriller; the typical and iconographic mise-en-scene; typical characters and the narrative themes. I also discussed target audiences of Thrillers. This research gave us broader ideas for our film.

  • Formed first prelim groups

    Formed first prelim groups
Our group's preliminary exerciseWe were put into groups after the research tasks. The class was spilt into 6 different groups: A-F. We were group F. This was for out preliminary exercise. We started to plan the preliminary exercise. To do this we made a storyboard, a shot list and a 'camera map' for where we needed the camera. We filmed for the prelim shortly after. Once finished we edited.

    101F Preliminary Exercise
We exported and fitted our preliminary exercise so it would be able to go on Youtube. We learned how to export videos here and we also learnt what key technological parts had to happen before putting it on Youtube. E.g. what viewing settings (HD TV), specific size for screen etc.
  • Formed new groups

    Formed new groups
We were then put into 5 new groups: A-E. My group, 101E, then began thinking of initial ideas for our Opening Title Sequnce. My group was Ryan Jones, Liam McMillen and me, Jamie Male. throughout the whole time, this really helped me develop proper group working skills and roles.
  • Started planing for Opening Title Sequence

Started planing for Opening Title Sequence
We started properly planning and structuring our ideas together. once we had done this we started making storyboards, shot lists and coming up with and piecing together ideas for our pitch.
  • Started our blog

    Started our blog
    Our blog
Our blog was for recording our work and saying regularly how were getting on and what stages we were at. The first thing we put on there was our research task.
  • Our Pitch

    Our Pitch
Our pitch was when we explained our idea to the whole class and our tutor. The pitch was filmed so we could put it on our blog. Our pitch was showed through powerpointw, whilst we explained it to the class. What we explained was our initial ideas and how they collaborated; our treatmeant; our synopsis and the key cinemagtography and mise-en-scne that would be exoressed throughout the film.
  • Pre-filming planning

    Pre-filming planning
The day for filming was comming up and we had to make a shot-list for the day, which included all the different variable shots, as well as how long the shots had to be and also the specific list of what order the shots had to be in. We also made a shooting schedual for the day. This had what we had to do throughout the day, and where we had to be during the day. We said that we were going to start by picking up the camera from the college from 8.30, then meet up with the group to start filming.
  • Filming Day

    Filming Day
On our filming day we stuck to the shooting schedual and the shot list. We also kept a wide variety of shots and camera angles. This was so we had more expendable footage to work with whilst in the editing stage.
  • Start of editing

    Start of editing
With the footage on tape, we imported the footage from the camera on to the computer. Our first thing we thought to do was to put it all in a rough chronological order. When we put the footage we had onto the computer, the sound didn't match the film. So, we had to change some sound to match parts that it was needed, e.g. door closing, paper being slammed down or throwing bag on the floor
  • Reshoot

    Reshoot
We had two reshoots because the first time we thought we had all we needed. However, we then thought of a new idea for new graphics, so Ryan filmed for the second reshoot. The first time we did a reshoot we filmed more things in Ryan's house so we could give more of a personality to our main character. We shot things like props and more focus on the note from his mother.
  • First text test

    First text test
This is where we first practiced and come up with the idea for our graphics. Here I learnt how to use a colour corrector to change the colour an richness of the picture on screen. I also learned how to add and blend/blur text into the screen.
  • Finished all research for our film

Finished all research for our film
101E Quack BlogWe documented all of our research and images on our Quack Blog. On this, we put our prelimiary exercise and also our finished video
  • Finished Opening Title Sequence

    Finished Opening Title Sequence
101E Final Cut This is our final cut and we learned how to evaluate and look at all the good and bad things about our Opening Title Sequence because we asked our classmates what they thought about it and they gave us feed back on it.
  • What would we have changed?

    What would we have changed?
If I could change anything about our Opening Title Sequence, is to make it more about our original idea. Meaning that the Opening Title Sequence we made was more loosely based on our original idea. But what worked well was the music which complemented the editing.
