Process of Construction of Our Media Product - Technologies

  • Research - Prezi

This was the first time I used Prezi (having used PowerPoint in the past). I prefer it was PP as it presents the work much nicer, and makes it more interactive for the user. It also shows a wider range of skills, something which contributed to my development as a media producer.
  • Research - Creative Commons

Creative Commons is a website where it will lead you to different sites where you can freely download non-copyrighted music and sounds. It was good to use because there were a range of sites to use, but because of this, there was a lot of choices and was difficult to find the right track for our media product.
  • Planning - Timetoast

This wasn't my first time using Timetoast, but it was the first use of it in the planning process. I used it to plan out my production schedule, which was very useful because I knew what we were meant to be doing on a particular day and it kept me on track.
  • Planning - Movie Maker

Because I didn't have professional editing programs available at home, I used Windows Movie Maker to create my animated digital storyboard, which was easy for me to use because I have used it before. Although it didn't develop my skills as a media producer, it developed my understanding of one, because WMM is simple to use, it would not be good to use for more complex media products, like a film.
  • Filming - JVC HD Camera

Using the camera was what made me develop as a media producer the most as it is similar, if not the same, to what real film producers would use to create their own products. It was easy for us to use, and with the help of non-technologies, e.g. tripod and fig-rig, it produced very clear and professional shots.
  • Filming - Phone Camera

As simple as it is, the phone camera was a good technology to use as part as the filming process. With the phone camera, we took 'on-set' photos to upload to social networking site, Instagram. This is something real film stars (and some film crew) do with real media products.
  • Editing - Final Cut Pro

Final Cut Pro is a very professional editing programme that was used to put together our media product. This was the vital piece of technology that contributed to our media product. It definitely helped me a media producer as, like the JVC Camera, it is similar, if not, the same program real editors use to edit their media products. It was easy for me to use because I had a basic knowledge regarding the program, but it went on, I learnt new things (rendering sound) to expand my knowledge.
  • Editing - Motion

Motion is a program we used to create our two idents. At first it was difficult to use because there were so many different things we could use to create our ident (e.g. word animations, backgrounds, animated backgrounds). But because it was difficult, it gave us the chance to wider our media skills even more and I understood what some production and distribution companies have to do to make their idents for their media products.
