  • Mar 27, 1534

    The King of France Sent Jacques Cartier on a Journey of Exploration

    -He ordered Cartier to find valued gems and metals to make France rich and a shipping route to the Orient to grant French traders to import silk and other products to Europe.
    -Cartier set up a large cross at Pointe-Penouille on the Gaspe Peninsula to show France claim to this "new" world
    -Explored the St.Lawrence
  • Samuel de Champlain

    -Established a settlement at Quebec City which was the first permanent settlement for Europe.-Made a military alliance with the Huron people. 1609, He joined them in an attack and they one.
    -He created a successful colony
  • Ursuline Nuns

    -Marie de L'Incarnation along with other nuns came to New France because they believed that she should spread the Roman Catholic Religion
    -They founded a convent and a school for girls, both First Nation girla and the daughters of settlers
  • Louis de Buade becomes Govenor

    -Was sent to New France to develop seigneurs and not expand fur trades but because he was heavily in dept, he did not follow the kings order-1682, he was recalled for not following the kings wishes.1689, Re-pointed to governor
  • War of the Spanish Successtion

    -Prevent France from taking over Spain and it's colonies
    -France lost Acadia
  • Treaty of Utrecht

    -France gave up Acadia for Guadeloupe and Martinique because they grew sugar which was in demand
    -France kept Ile Royale which is now Cape Brenton
  • Seven Year War

    -Fight was between French and British
    -Climax of the fighting between the British and the France. They fought all over the world.
    -General James Wolfe let a campaign to capture Quebec
  • Capturing Fort Louisbourg

    -British captured Fort Louisbourg and destroyed it
    -Opened the invasion of the Brisih
  • Battle of the Plains of Abraham

    -Both generals died in this battle
    -Battle lasted about 15 minutes
    -British won
    -British used the "thin red line" strategy
  • Treaty or Paris

    -Ended the Seven Year War
    - Each side retured some of the places it had captured from the other in the war
    -New France stayed as a British colony
