Creation of NOI The organization began on this day. It was started by a man once known as Wallace Mohammad who was said to be approached by God and told to start this movement. He would change his name to Farh Muhammad. -
Goals of the Nation of Islam
Goals of NOI A major goal of the Nation of Islam was not to desegregate, but for the black community to create its own schools aand communities.Many people considered this to be anti-semitist, but Farh Muhammad has said that it is what the people need right now. He was not being racist, he's was trying to do what was right. -
Malcolm X begins preaching for the Nation of Islam
Biography of Malcolm X In 1952, Malcolm X joined the Nation of Islam and began preaching for them as one of the faces of the group. Born as Malcolm Little and also known as el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, Malcolm X was an American Muslim minister and human rights activist. To his admirers he was a courageous advocate for the rights of blacks, a man who indicted white America in the harshest terms for its crimes against black Americans. -
Elijah Affair
Elijah Affair In 1963, Malcolm X learned that his mentor and leader Elijah Muhammad was indulging in secret relationships with as many as six women within the NOI, some of which were having Elijah's children. Malcolm was deeply hurt by the deception. The teachings of NOI specified celibacy until marriage. He asked Malcolm to help cover up the affairs and the existence of the children, but Malcolm refused. -

Malcolm Leaves the NOI Malcolm X officially left the Nation of Islam and proceeded to create his own organization called Muslim Mosque Inc. -
Farrakhan helps lead the Million Man March
The Million Man March On thsi day. Mr. Farrakhan lead a march in Wahington DC which brought together over 800,000 black men. The point of it was to disprove the media's portrayal of black men being gang violent. -
Problems Today
Modern Days Issues of the NOI1. The NOI has released several videos over the past few years in support of their movement and ideas. It has come to light that the gov't is trying to surpress some of these films and the message they are trying to spread.- Back in 2011, two inmates in a prison secretely planned a terrorist attack once they converted to Islam within the prison. The NOI is still trying to seperate themselves from violent people like this.

NOI by the Numbers Today
The NOI has anywhere from 20,000 to 50,000 active members based on recent estimates. Also, over 120 mosques teaching their ways have been esstablished in major cities all over the country.
