Napoleon Bonaparte created the Banque de France in order to allow a financial recovery of France, in which it succeeded. -
Concordat of 1801 - Green
Pope Pius VII signs along with Napoleon which recognizes that Catholicism is the main religion of the French, gaining support as much of France was already Catholic. -
Consul for Life - Green
Napoleon becomes First Consul for life, putting him in power for as long as he likes. -
Napoleonic Code - Green
Napoleon’s Civil Code is enforced throughout France, valuing authority over civil rights. -
Declared Self Emperor - Green
The Consulate is transformed into an empire with Napoleon declared Emperor of the French, allowing him control over the entirety of France. -
Battle of Trafalgar - Red
British admiral Lord Nelson catches sight of many French and Spanish ships heading toward England, and he prepares to fight. After hours of fighting and a victory over France Nelson dies, however he was able to ensure that France would not attempt an invasion of Britain, ultimately a great defeat for Napoleon. -
Abolished Holy Roman Empire - Green
Napoleon abolishes the holy Roman empire leaving it a 38 member Confederation of the Rhine in Frances’ protection. This and other successes made Paris support Napoleon. -
Continental System - Red
Napoleon closes all European ports to British goods, however this was a failure as it failed to bring Britain down and caused prices to soar throughout Europe. -
Resistance in Spain - Red
Napoleon tries to undermine the Spanish Catholic Church however the Spanish fight back with guerilla warfare ultimately leading his troops to be stuck in Spain when needed elsewhere. -
Invasion of Russia - Red
After Russia withdrawals from the Continental System, Napoleon invades, eventually retreating, this marking the beginning of the end for Napoleon’s empire as Europe fights back against him. -
Battle of Nations at Leipzig - Red
Russia, Sweden, Austria, and Prussia defeat Napoleon, effectively ending his reign as emperor leading him into exile. -
Abdication - Red
Napoleon abdicates the throne and he is exiled to the island of Elba, ending his reign completely for the time being. -
Hundred Days - Yellow
Napoleon returns from Elba and Louis XVIII is restored as king, but his power has decreased greatly leaving his army weak and support low. -
Waterloo - Red
After returning from exile Napoleon regroups his army but is again defeated at Waterloo, abdicating a second time. This is his final exile, as he passes away from stomach cancer.
