My Life as a Curriculum Maker

By sdennis
  • Played Teacher at home

My teddy bears were my students or my sister and brother. Poor them! Computers were just begining so I wrote out spelling tests by hand.
  • Taught my 6 year old brother to swim when I was 10

My brother was terribly scared of water and only trusted me, so his swimming instructor allowed me to help out in class. I still remember helping him to do his back floats. Now he is a good swimmer.

This was one of the first years that I volunteered at camp. After that I went back every summer for about 4 summers in a row. I loved watching the kids learn and grow. What a fun time!

I love lifeguarding and teaching people about the pool. You would never imagine how similar lifeguarding and teaching can be at times, so many skills overlap. I learned to teach people about safety around water.
