Darkness
My mother and I were shopping in a supermarket. Being a playful 4 year old I ran around the store exploring every corner and wall when suddenly the lights had blacked out and left only darkness. I felt scared and cried out to my mother. She responded but all I could do was sit and cry as the darkness was frightening to me at the time. The darkness lasted what seemed to me at the time as half a hour was really just a few minutes. Fortunately the light came back and bought comfort. -
Lost and found
My 4th grade class had a system to reward kids with raffle tickets for doing homework or good quiz grades. You could turn in your tickets for rewards like candy, pencils, erasers and such. I had found a hand full of dropped tickets in the hallway one day and without hesitation turned it into my homeroom teacher. My teacher was very surprised that I had not just kept them for myself. Up until then I did not consider that to be a choice. I was rewarded with tickets. -
Curve ball
My 5th grade gym class played soccer every class. I tried my very hardest to play and become a useful part of the team by playing goalie since I was not good at running I was tasked with blocking a corner kick. Before I knew it the ball came flying in my direction curving it's own path smacking me right in the nose causing me to bleed. The ball met my face twice before I quit and never played a sport again in my life. -
Minor realization
While looking to text my friends during the summer I realized I had have the same few friends for half my life. I realized I was very loyal and close to just these friends. During the school day I stuck close to one friend and could talk forever which contradicts with how others see me, shy and quiet. I realized I have not broke a single friendship and I have still have contacts with friends from long ago. I realized I am considered to be a best friend by many. -
Taking risks
At age 17 I finally learned to swim at a public beach during the middle of summer. This is the first time I was able to keep afloat without the support of the ground. Being excited I decided it would be fun to try swimming to a wooden raft 40 feet away from shallow water with my new found skill. My cousin and I raced, as I got closer my arms were getting tired and cramping, I was in real danger of drowning but it was exciting and adventurous. I grabbed the raft with the last of my strength.
