  • Battle of Tippecanoe Creek

    Battle of Tippecanoe Creek
    Native American resistance was beginning to cause tension. Governor Harrison marched with an army of about 1,000 men to burn the confederacy's headquarters at Prophetstown, near the intersection of the Tippecanoe and Wabash Rivers.
  • British Attack Detroit

    A British force along with Tecumseh and the Native Americans, used deception to get the U.S. to surrender Detroit. It is important because this victory re-energized British forces, and got them more confident.
  • U.S. Naval Commander Oliver Perry Captures a British Fleet

    9 American ships engaged 6 british Vessels. The U.S.S Lawrence was lost to heavy fire from british ships, but Perry escaped with some healthy crew. They made it to the U.S.S Niagara and raised the war flag again. They got close enough to fire on the british ships and tore them to shreds, the british surrendered. This gave the U.S. control of Lake Erie.
  • British Defend Lower Canada

    A British force of about 1,600 men tried to repel against an American force with about 4,000 men trying to capture lower Canada. Even with the odds stacked against them the British won.It was one of the two battles that got the U.S. to evacuate the St. Lawrence Campaign.
  • U.S. Captures Fort Erie

    An American force launched an attack across the Niagara River. During that attack the Americans captured Fort Erie. This attack allowed the American army to advance farther north into Canada.

    After defeating Americans at the battle of Bladensburg, a british force (led by Major General Robert Ross) captured Washington City and burned many important buildings, such as the White House.

    This was a combined sea and land battle, between British and American soldiers. The American forces held off the sea and land invasions of a busy port in Baltimore. The U.S. killed the commander of the attacking British force.It is important because one of the people that the British captured was Francis Scott Key. While he was captured he was watching the battle and that inspired him to write the Star Spangled Banner, our national anthem.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    Battle of New Orleans
    Andrew Jackson defeated an invading British Army, who wanted to seize New Orleans and the rest of the land that the U.S. had obtained in the Louisiana Purchase. This event is important because it was a key battle in the war; it is also considered the greatest American land victory of the war.
  • Napoleon's defeat in Europe, allowing the British to commit more troops to the war in the U.S.

    British forces allied with the Prussians, and defeated Napoleon at the battle of Waterloo. This allowed the british to focus all of their efforts on the U.S.
