This was one of the first steps in the war of 1812. When France declared war on Britain, England needed soldiers to help fight. This is where impressment began, stirring up the Americans.

To increase the number of troops against France and Napoleon later on, Great Britain took to impressing American Sailors to help with their military effort. This ended around 1812, as Britain no longer needed more soldiers.

The purchase is finalized for the United States, and westward expansion begins. People hear that Great Britain is supplying tribes that are resisting the colonization of the Americans, furthering tensions.

After tensions had boiled up, the United States declared war on Britain, officially starting the war of 1812. Although this was the start of the war, tensions were strained between Britain and the United States long before.

This is one of the more significant defeats early on in the war. General Hull used Detroit to invade Canada, so losing the position was a large loss for the American Forces.

Although The United States had already declared war on Great Britain, Great Britain hadn't officially declared war back until now. This was just another step in creating higher tensions and conflicts.

Peace began to be negotiated between Great Britain and America. This step is a positive step in ending the war, but it takes place in Europe.

The British attacked Washington D.C., burning buildings. This included the White House, where Dolley Madison saved the portrait of George Washington from burning in the fire.

The treaty is declared, and the war is over. However, it would take two months before the news reached America. It's seen as a massive triumph for Americans.

This battle is unique because it happened after the war had ended. The word of the treaty had not yet reached further down south, so conflict ensued. This battle had extreme casualties for the British and almost none for the American troops, led by Andrew Jackson.
