I was born into a jewish family and at the time it was dangrous for us to stay. Times were bad then and it wasn't a safe place for us anymore. So, my mother took me and my sister on a joureny to this huge ship. I was only 2 when we went on our journey to America.

    America
We were in this ship for months. A lot of people had died and my mother feared I might as well. However, I didn't becasue I remember everyone crowding around the edges of the ship and my mother putting me on her shoulders. I saw land and it looked nice and peaceful for the most part. It was also nice to see land again.

    Ellis Island
When it's our turn to get checked in Ellis Island my mother is worried that they might not let me through. However, in the end they did let my mother, my sister and me through. I was scared in Ellis Island, but when we went out my worried went away and replaced with hope.

    Civil war draft
This year I will never forget. It was when I was drafted for war. I thought that for sure I was going to die and never see my loved ones again. I was marryed and had kids; my sister wasn't doing well. I didn't have the money to pay to get out so I went. I was also fighting for the wrong side: the union. I like the U.S as it was but I aslo believed the south had a right to break away. Their slavery idea was wrong but other than that I would have wanted to fight for them.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
It was one of my first big battles. It was the most horrible thing you could possibley imagine. People were dead everywhere you looked. Bullets were seen everywhere. However, in the end we won the battle of Shiloh. I would never want to go through that kind of thing ever again though. I had to watch my friend get shot and die. I will never forget any of it, no matter how hard I may want to.
  • The end

    The end
It was finally over. The south surendered and I was allowed to go back home to my family. I will never forget the joy in their eyes when they saw me step through the door. I was so glad to see my family and be gone from war.
