    Post World War 1 Territorial Controversy
    During World War 1 the British Empire received assistance from the Arabs in fighting the Ottoman Empire. This was to be a British - Arab collaboration, where the Arab efforts would be exchanged with the return of previous owned land then occupied by the Turkish.
    At the end of World War 1 the British failed to fulfill their agreement, instead the land was divided between them and the French seizing control.
  • State of Israel Established

    State of Israel Established
    The Jewish population has been subject to antisemitism long before the actions of Nazi power. In the late 19th century, Theodor Helz proposed the idea of Zionism as a solution to their dissacord with Europeans. A Jewish state where Jews could be free was the main concept behind Zionism, and this idea/dream saw success as the State of Israel was established in 1948 with support from the United Nations.
  • Jewish State Conflict

    The Arab states were opposed to this, and on the day of establishment Egypt, Jordan, Iraq and Syria attacked Israel. The Israel side retaliated and by doing so, gained a lot of Arab state territory.

  • Six Day War

    A six day long war between Israel and Arab States: Egypt, Jordan and Syria resulted in more territorial gains for Israel. Israel occupied territories from all three states.
  • Six Day War Consequences

    Six Day War Consequences
    In these territories they built settlements where Israeli civilians are living with aims to integrate the new territories into Israel. When building, the Palestinian houses in the designated settlement areas were knocked down. The political divide between Jews and Palestinians is clear; Jews are prioritised whereas Palestinians are severely restricted.

    Palestinians were outraged about their unfair treatment and this lead to an uprising. The First Intifada saw mass boycotts and violence which went on for 4 years.
  • Oslo Peace Process

    This was a peace process agreed upon by Israel and Arab leaders. It entailed matters such as the Jewish withdrawal from Arabic states and the establishment of a Palestine police force.
  • Rabin assassinated

    A leader who played a significant part in the Oslo Peace Process is shot dead by a member of a right-wing extremist group . "He is one of the brave leaders of Israel and the peacemakers".
  • Second Intifada

    The agreed upon Oslo peace process was in action but leaders were struggling to agree on key issues. This is considered to be what sparked the Second Intifada which featured deadlier attacks than the first one; reflected in the significant death toll.
  • Building of Separation Barrier

    Building of Separation Barrier
    On the West Bank a large wall has been in construction since 2002. This wall or barrier is possibly the largest ever, exceeding the size of the Berlin Wall and has restricted many civilians living in this area.
  • Withdrawal of Settlements from Gaza Strip

    The Gaza Strip is removed of settlements, but this withdrawal appears incomplete as Israel still has control over many matters including airspace, electricity and water, taxes and surrounding waters.
  • Gaza War

    The Gaza War was fought in the area of the Gaza strip by Israel and Palestine and lasted three weeks. This conflict entailed attacks by land and air all leaving a lot of damage. The Israeli intention of starting a war was to stop the rockets that were fired onto southern Israel as well as the illegal smuggling of weapons.

    When Israel troops attacked on the 17th July 2014 the situation seemed similar to the 2008-2009 Gaza war, but in this case the war was deadlier. A cease fire was announced 50 days after the Israel attack.
  • Gaza Border Protests

    Gaza Border Protests
    The Gaza strip fence bordering Israel has been overtaken by protesters who are seeking justice for the hardship they have faced due to Israel's occupation. The protests persisted up until the anniversary of Israel's establishment, a day they associate with suffering and Catastrophe, rather than a positive celebration. This day is considered to be the culmination of their protesting. 168 people have been killed.
