    Birth, Ireland
I was born in Ireland, 1885. Life was hard here. We were still recovering from the Potato Famine. I married a man in 1902. Soon after, he left to America, he had wanted to find a decent life for me, that and my family didn't like him. He found a job and began saving up for me to join him. In 1903, he finally got the money. I was going to America! At my departing, father handed me a leather bound journal with a bunch of scrap pieces of paper all tied together. And that is where my journey begins.
  • Arrival at Ellis Island

    Arrival at Ellis Island
Arrived at Ellis Island today. It wasn't at all what I expected. Instead of white walls with nurses and doctors comforting the sick; it's a bunch of dirty floors, mean Americans, and a long wait. But at least it's better than the bottom part of the ship in which I spent all of my time in. I can still feel the rocking of the ship, the sounds of the coughing people, and the wretched smell of puke. No, this place is much better. I can't wait to see Liam again. It's been nearly 3 months and I miss h

    Trip to the New Home
In just a mere two hours I will be in Liam's arms again! The wait is killing me! I am currently riding in the train as they call it. It is quite exciting. However, I don't believe there is one kind American here. They take on look at me and turn up their noses and keep walking. I hope not all Americans are this snooty. Even if they are all this bad, the view makes up for it. It's green everywhere! The trees are so tall and majestic. I can see why Liam loves this country so much. I believe I am

    New Life
It's already been a month since I arrived in America. Liam wasn't on time for the train but a nice lady had showed me to where I go. I have been working as a maid/nanny for a rich family. The wage is poor but they provide us with a small house in the back yard near the stable. I don't like the Collin's, they are a bunch of snooty brats who get whatever they want. Liam's job isn't much better, he works at the Carnegie Steel Company and his hourly pay is quite sad compared to what other people bac

air and space Today is a very good day. Liam has gotten a raise at his job plus everyone is taking about a contraption called a plane. Yesterday, two brothers by the name of Wright were able to fly. It lasted 59 seconds! I haven't been able to work very hard lately. I seem to get sick early in the morning, occasionally throwing up, but by afternoon it's all gone. It's a big mystery. People still don't seem to accept me very well. Just last week I had to run an errand for Mrs. Collins. I got there but it seem

I really miss Ireland. I know it's crazy, but I got a letter from my Uncle Gerald yesterday. Father died nearly 7 months ago! Which was soon after I left. Uncle Gerald said it was a heart attack, probably because I, his last child, left him. My older siblings all died towards the end of the potato famine. Poor father, he will never get to hold his grandchild. That's right, I'm nearly 6 months along now. Liam has gotten another promotion in his work. They apparently can't get enough of my Irish m
