Life in Germany (Historical Event 1)
I was born in Germany on August 7th, 1840. During my time in Germany it wasn't so pleasant. I was Jewish at the time. Even though we had a half decent place to live, it was time for me to leave. I needed a job, money and, some more land. My neighbors in Germany also wanted to move to New York City. We decided to take a trip together and see if we were really willing to actually move that far away. At the time It was just me, my sister and the Parker family along with Bridgette's boyfriend.

Ship ride over to New York CIty (HIstorical event 2)
On the day that we had to leave(May, 18th, 1859), we said our goodbyes and reported to our sailing ship. The boat was very crowded. We were literally standing shoulder to shoulder. As far as we could tell, there was not going to be enough food for everyone on board. On our way over people were being shoved off the boat because there was no more room or food. Bridgette's boyfriend happened to be one of them who got shoved off. Eventually my sister died of starvation weeks before we arrived.

    Arriving In New York CIty
We arrived at New York on June 20th, 1859. At first we couldn't find any jobs that interested us. We decided to come up with our own business and start there. We found a building to build our own bar and Restaurant. It started off slow but eventually we built up enough money to hire employees and improve the business. We found out about the Meat Inspection Act and started watching where we bought our meat. Later on in the business we got awarded as the Best bar and restaurant in New York City.

    Looking for a new house
Because of all of the money we've been gaining from our business, we decided to look for a nice house. When we were house shopping I started to notice all of the slums in the city. We both knew we didn't want to live in something like that. So, we started to look over the outskirts of the city. We found this neighborhood which was full of other Jews. The house was a comfortable setting for all of us. Once we settled in, I started to think about the slums.

Creating my book "Slum housing in the City"
I took a break from the business and went more into the topic of slum housing. I knew there was something that I could do about it so, I reported it to the newspaper editor of the city and gave him my opinion on the situation. He thought it would be a great idea for me to write a book about it to influence the richer people in the city to get involved. I immediately went home to tell everyone and got started.Bridgette helped me along the way.We came up with the title "Slum housing in the City".

    After finishing my book
After finally finishing the book we sent it off to be published. They loved it! People all over started to help and thank us for what good we are doing. At this point I was so proud of myself for coming up with such a wonderful idea. We sure did make a lot of money off of it. Over 2, 000 copies were sold over 1 year. And best of all there were these people called muckraker's who came in the cities to help and clean up where all of the slums were. Near the end of this success

    Overlooking My Trip
This trip to New York City was absolutely amazing. In fact, I don't think I will ever be gong back to Germany. Me and Bridgette had accomplished so much throughout the past few years here. We helped both ourselves, and others. Our Restaurant and Bar has been doing so well. And my book is still impacting people throughout the world today.
