A couple called Mary and Michal Burge created the first catholic school that was funded entirely by money from local catholic settlers. The school was not far from Saint Stephen's Cathedral.

Australia was in poverty because of war. Catholic education was effected by the lack of teachers, growing class sizes and economic challenges. Some schools waived fees but no schools shut down. This started in 1929 and went until 1945

Father Berneter Shay was chosen to be a Diocese Inspector. His job lasted until 1948.

In this year Catholic Education was struggling with its mission while the post war was on.

Laws were made to keep Church and State separate from each other. By the end of the decade 35 catholic schools were built and funded. St Mary of the Cross Mackillop and the Sisters of St Joseph arrived in Brisbane and started teaching.
