  • LAZY

    LAZY
I started off this project feeling like a couch potato. I used to be involved in many sports, but ever since university started I had not been able to find a balance between physical activity, work, and school. Lazy would be the best word to describe me. At times I found it hard to find motivation to do things I needed done. I would eat the easiest thing I could find (which was not always fruit and vegetables), and could easily spend a day on the couch watching TV.

  • Why This Topic?

    Why This Topic?
I am becoming a health major, and a lot of the outcomes in the curriculum are about physical activity, and feeling positive about yourself. If I expect my students to learn about this and I support them to feel good about themselves, I should set a positive example by participating in a lifestyle that makes me feel the same as well. I want my students to see what a difference a healthy lifestyle can make. To me, it isn't about being super fit, it is about feeling positive.
  • YMCA

    YMCA
After I decided that for my project I wanted to get more physical activity and eat healthy, one of my first steps was to go to the YMCA (this is where I have a gym membership) and see what kind of physical activity I could take part in that I would enjoy. I decided that I would use the gym fitness equipment (treadmill, weights, yoga mats, etc,), swim laps, try a zumba class, and try a spin class.
  • 30 Day Ab Challenge

    30 Day Ab Challenge
One of the hardest parts of starting to incorporate physical activity into your life is sticking with a routine so that you keep it up. In order to start a routine for myself to ensure that I was remembering my goal of having more physical activity each day was to complete this 30 day ab challenge. Each day I checked the calendar to see what I was supposed to do, and it reminded me to keep on top of my goal and not push it to the side.
  • Goodbye Vehicle

    Goodbye Vehicle
Rather than taking a vehicle everywhere, I decided that walking and biking was going to be a big part of my project. I have walked to work everyday since I have started, and have gone on bike rides a couple of times during the week. The walk to work has really been a positive start to my day. It wakes me up and gives me the fresh air I need to get going!
  • Full Eight Hours

    Full Eight Hours
A major part of living healthy is making sure to get enough sleep. I have been going to bed earlier and making sure I get a full eight hours every night so that I have enough energy throughout the day.
  • Spin Class

    Spin Class
I really enjoyed the spin class. I am someone who has always enjoyed biking, so this class was something I was very excited to try. Mike, the instructor, was also amazing which helped to make the class. He played up beat music and made sure you kept pushing yourself the entire class. I plan on continuing to go to these classes!
  • Help from Social Networking

    Help from Social Networking
I had my own ideas as to how to incorporate physical activity into my life, and knew that I could go online and look up healthy recipes, but I wanted some outside help. In order to get this, I posted a Facebook status asking for help, as well as a photo on Instagram doing the same thing. The friends I have on these accounts were able to provide me access to apps, websites, and plans that they use in their life. The Facebook status ended up being far more successful than I thought it could be!
  • Zumba

    Zumba
My first zumba class was a success! I had the time of my life, and almost forgot that it was a work out! This class not only was enjoyable to me, but it taught me that working out and getting physical activity does not have to feel like a chore. You can do it while having fun with other people next to you! I highly suggest trying out a zumba class. Be ready to move and shake the entire time!
  • Drinking water

    Drinking water
I have been drinking two water bottles a day! It has helped me to avoid drinking things like pop and coffee.

  • Now What?

    Now What?
From here, I plan on continuing the healthy and active lifestyle I have been able to create for myself for the past month. Overall, I feel much better! I have more motivation to do things throughout my day, I do not "snack" throughout the day as much which is something I was guilty for, and I feel happier about myself now that I have started this lifestyle.
