    Pope Gregory became pope. He was the pope who decided to make the move back to the Vatican city. The pope's in Avignon before him were exposed because of the french kings.

    The Avignon Pope visited Italy and died. A new pope was elected and wanted the papacy to move back to Rome.

    People started to hear about Pope Gregory XI's death in Avignon, starting the western Schism

    Only 2 popes reigned in opposition to roman papacy, ending the western Schism.
