Golden Gate Seminary

  • Moved into the Mallory Hall dorms!

Excited to meet new people and make new friends!
  • First day of seminary!

First day of seminary started off with a 9am Old Testament class with Professor Arbino. I remember him showing us a video of him as a Klingon. :) I didn't enjoy the class much at all but things improved. :)
  • Hebrew reading at 6:15am at McDonalds

Hebrew was so fun to learn, incredibly difficult but rewarding! Ended up doing very poorly in the class but passed by grace.
  • Survey of Christianity - Midterm!

Loved this class to pieces! Really enjoyed learning about Christian history and all the great saints who have gone before me and set the foundation of orthodoxy. The great defenders of faith!
  • Foundations of Ministry!

One of my favorite classes, a great way to start off my seminiary studies. Really helped me refine my calling and understand my goals, purpose, and vision for ministry, for life.
  • Aaron and I start dating!

Exciting times, starting a new relationship with my future husband! :)
  • First J-Term: Intro to Missions

First J-Term! I had to drop the other class I was taking because I didn't know I had to look at the syllabus before the class started and have assignments due on the first day of class! Learned a lot from this missions class. Dr. Prosperly really drove home the point that missions is here at home. We are missionaries wherever we go and we do it because we love Jesus. Did a presentation about Adoniram Judson and he is now one of my greatest Christian heroes in the faith!
  • Start of Spring semester!

Excited to be taking Christian History 2, Preaching and Communication, Classics of Christian Devotion, and Basic Evangelism.
  • Personal Issues - Withdraw from Spring semester

Due to ongoing difficulties in my personal life I had to take a leave of absence from school and withdraw from all my classes. It was devastating but God was at work in it!
  • Got Married!

Got married to my best friend! :)
  • Back at Seminary - Fall semester

Started classes again! Only taking two classes to enjoy my first year of marriage. Took Greek with Dr. Boo and Ministry Leadership with Dr. Gainey. Loved both classes and enjoyed the time I got to spend at seminary with my husband as we stayed overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.
  • Greek Class

I end up being the only person in my Greek class! It was awkward when I would fall asleep but Prof. Boo was a great teacher and I learned tons. The class really helped me understand Greek a little and I loved when we would get into the Bible and discover all those crazy awesome nuances. It enhanced my love for the Word and for Jesus.
  • Ministry Leadership

Always enjoyed classes with Dr. Gainey. Ministry leadership really helped me cultiave a spirit of servanthood and Christ-likeness. We read a lot of good books on different aspects of leadership and I found many nuggets of wisdom I added to my own experience to help me be a more well-rounded and effective leader for the kingdom!
  • Youth Retreat with FMLC

The first time we met this group of youth kids as their retreat counselors. We loved 'em, they were so fun! Aaron got to preach a few times and we got to counsel them. :)
  • Lunch with Justine and Jerry

A seemingly random lunch but we were informed that the old youth pastor from the retreat we had just gone to a few weeks ago had quit and they asked us to be the interim pastors! We were absoluetly floored! We had been looking for a place to serve and God just opened up these amazing doors!
  • Spring Semester Beings!

This semester I really resolved to buckle down, get good grades, and graduate ASAP. I signed up for New Testament 2, Church History 2, Basic Evangelism, Church Leadership and Administration. I learned a lot from those classes. I especially loved NT2 with Dr. Robertson, he's an awesome professor and I learned so much more about the New Testament!
  • First Online Chat!

This was my first semester taking an online class and it was awesome! I really enjoyed the online chats and it was fun seeing/hearing all my classmates.
  • First Bible Study at FMLC!

The first quarter was filled with a lot of firsts! This was my first Saturday at FMLC as their new youth minister!
  • End of Spring Semester!

It was a hard semester with a lot of projects and happenings with ministry but it was all worthwhile!
  • Summer Semester Starts!

I was going to take three classes back to back. Intercultural communications, Introduction to Pastoral Minsitry, and Foundations for Educational Leadership. It was going to be a brtual summer and a brutal month of June but I was so determined to finish as soon as I could.
  • Taiwan Summer Missions

For two weeks Aaron and I took a group of 15 kids on a missions trip to Taiwan. It was a ton of fun and we really bonded with them. We loved seeing them live out their faith in bold proclaimation.
  • Aaron starts his new job!

Aaron starts working at a new job the day after we get back from Taiwan missions. I am so proud of him for getting the new job and working so hard!
  • Second to last Fall Semester!

The start of a year-long TFE class, Greek Exegesis, and two online classes: Old Testament I and New Testament I. I took both the Testament classes in reverse, taking 2 first but it was still awesome! :D
  • TFE

For TFE I had to teach at another church and it was tough to wake up for 6am teaching on Saturdays but I love teaching and it was so worthwhile. TFE was really helpful in having feedback from other pastors and more experienced professors. I'm glad TFE is a part of this!
  • Greek Exegesis: Galatians

Amazing class with an amazing professor. The time and effort he put into making charts and teaching really inspired me to dig into the Word myself and one day, if I'm ever a professor, to give the same level of commitment, dedication and LOVE to my students/subject!
  • J-Term!

I had a pretty relaxing January until the 22nd when two weeks of back to back classes started. It was very arduous as usual but I loved that I was making good progress on my studies! :)
  • Spiritual Formation

This was one of my favoritest classes! I loved the books we read and the focus on spiritual formation. I learned the value of taking regular sabbath's and how important it is to just be with the Lord and to know Him before anything else.
  • Lifespand Development

Really awesome class w Dr. Melick. I learned so much in that one week and I met some cool people. One guy who had been in my other J-term and summer classes really made an impression on me since he wanted to pursue his Ph.D studies and he already had a Ph.D!! He wanted to do it for the Lord :D I was so amazed and blessed by his friendship! :)
  • Last Spring Semester!!!!

My last spring semester... The countdown beigns! This semester will be filled with TFE, youth ministry leadership, counseling, Christian theology 2, worship and faith in the community, and OT2. I took 5/6 of my classes online. It was a tough semester to say the least but I learned lots and enjoyed every minute of it!
  • Summer Semester!

Educational ministry of the church was a fantastic class. Earlier it the year the Ph.D friend had inspired me to pursue a Ph.D and thsi class helped form that desire into the education realm! A milestone for sure!
  • LAST FALL SEMESTER!

I had to petition the faculty admissions committee to be able to graduate this fall because of a misunderstanding in the registrar's office. It was so harrowing since I had worked so hard and I thought I would have to stay another semester. I am looking forward to finishing my seminary studies strong!
  • GRADUATION!

I have been counting down the weeks until this date! When I walk across that stage, three and a half years would have passed since I started... I learned two new languages (Greek and Hebrew), I learned so much more about the Bible, about myself, I got married, this has been an amazing crazy journey! Praise the Lord, praise the Lord :)
