  • Charles I

    Charles I ascends to the thone. He tried to govern without the Parliament
  • Civil Wars

    1642-51: They stemmed from conflict between Charles I and Parliament over an Irish insurrection. Initially northern and western England, together with much of Ireland, stood for the king, while the southeast the Royal Navy, and Scotland fought for Parliament. The parliamentary forces were leaded by Cromwell
  • Charles I is beheaded

    The king refuses to accept his defeat. He is charged with treason and beheaded. The monarchy is abolished and Cromwell assumes control of the Commonwealth.
  • Charles II. Restoration

    After Oliver Cromwell's death and his son's flee, the monarchy is restored.
  • Test Act

    Test Act excludes Catholic from office.
  • The Glorious Revolution

    After having a Catholic heir, James II is deposed. The Parliament offers the crown to William of Orange and Mary I (jointly) as long as they maintain themselves within the Protestant faith.
  • Bill of Rights

    This bill gave the succession to Mary’s sister, Anne, in default of issue from Mary, barred Roman Catholics from the throne, abolished the crown’s power to suspend laws, and declared a standing army illegal in time of peace.
  • Act of Union of England and Scotland as GREAT BRITAIN.

    Under Queen Anne, the Act of Union is signed. Scots law and the law courts were preserved. United Parliament in Westminster, Scotland needed financial security & England wanted security concerning Jacobite rebellions
