    No More Money
    During the year of 1786, the bankers refused to lend the government any more money. The importance of this event is that this the "start" because the problems begin from here.
  • The First Meeting

    May 5th 1789 was the first meeting of the Estates-General. There was a representitive from all three estates. This was made because the king needed money, and the bank was not lending him.
  • End of Absolute Monarchy

    End of Absolute Monarchy
    In June 17th 1789 the poeple voted to establish the National Assembly to end the absolute monarchy (that the king had) and begin the representation in government. The importance of this event is because this is when the people started to notice that they needed a change in government.
  • Attack in the Bastille

    In July 14 1789 a mob of people stormed into the Bastille (a paris prison) They attacked and took control over the building they hacked the prison commander and several guards to death. After killing the guards they danced arounf the streets holding the deads people heads.
  • Feudalism Gone

    August 4th 1789 the nobleman made grand speeches, stating that they loved their liberty and equality. The National Assembly met and decided to end the feudalism, The divisions between the estates ended. This is important because there was equality between everyone even though some were still rich and some were still poor.

    August 27 1789 the National Assembly took in the statment that "men are born and remain free and equal in rights" This is important because this is when the rights of man and of the citizen were made.
  • Bread Riots

    October 5th 1789 the people started fighting for bread, for food because there wasn't enough for everyone. In this time the citizens were hungry.

    During the year of 1790 the National Assembly argued over the new constitution they were creating. When the year was over they did not make any important changes.
  • Escaping attempt

    In June of 1791 the royal family tried to escape from France, and they tried to go to Austrian Netherlands. When this happened the citizens were very mad at him because some of them still believed in him as a king and after the kind attempted to run away they were all disapointed and mad.

    In September 1791 the National Assembly final completed the new constitution. The constitution created a limited constitutional monarchy

    In January the 21st 1792 France abolished the monarchy, the king lost his power and there was no more official king. The king lost all his titles. Although they had already executed the king this was for the future, do further on there would no more king.

    During this time other countries were watching with fear the changes that France was making, and that their citizens will revolt against the government. Countries like Austria and Prussia took action and urged the French to put Louis back in his position as an absolute monarch. The Legislative Assembly responend back declaring war.

    In August 1792 many men and many women attacked the palace, where the royal family lived. The mob killed the guards and imprisoned Louis as well as Marie Antoniette and their children.

    During September the governmental members of radical political organization also known as the Jacobins took control and they called death to those who continued to support the king.
  • No More Official King

    No More Official King
    In September 21st 1792 France abolished the monarchy. There was no more official king. Since the king tried to run-away the citizens realized that they did not need him. So there would be no more king.
  • Execution

    January 21st 1793 Louis 16th is beheaded. The citizens made the king go to prison. After a while the citizens executed the king for all the bad he had done. Everyone hated him.
  • The New Army

    During February in 1793 the French were urging so the Convention ordered a draft of 300,000 french citizens to join the army. They have included men and women from the ages 18 to 40.
  • "Reign of Terror"

    "Reign of Terror"
    In July 1793 Robespierre became the leader of the Committee of the Public Safety. While he was a leader he ruled as a dictator, he called thousands of people to be executed including political figures. This is important because there was a name for this period of time "Reign of terror"

    In July 1794 Some of the members of the National Convention turned on Robespierre (for their own safety) They demanded his arrest and execution (the reign of terror ended)
  • End of Terror

    During the year 1795 The moderate leaders drafted a new plan of government (the third since 1789) The new plan of government placed power to the upper middle class. This is important because it meant a new time for everyone, they were able to start over.
