  • American Independence

    July 4th was when the declaration of independence was adopted by the 13 colonies making the US a country. The Declaration was first approved by the Continental Congress in the 2nd but took 2 days to be approved by all the colonies. The independence helped influence the French Revolution
  • (May) Louis XVI calls the Estates General to session

    The economy had become awful. This forced Louis XVI to call the Estates General. This was the first meeting since 1614. Each estate had equal representation which led to the third estate not having much of a say.
  • The National Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath

    The National Assembly and the Tennis Court Oath
    The Third Estate was ignored because they did not have much representation. So, they formed the national assembly. They did this in a tennis court because the doors to their chamber were locked
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    When revolutionary insurgents storm the Bastille prison to take weapons. In the future, this turns into a national holiday and becomes the symbolic act of the revolution.
  • France is declared a Republic

    The National Convention abolishes the monarchy. This gives birth to the First French Republic.
  • (Sept) The Reign of Terror

    The Reign of terror lasted about a year when there were many public executions of those who are revolutionary enough. This was led by the Comitee of public safety in attempt to stabalize France.
  • Louis XVI is executed

    After a trial on the 17th, king Louis XVI was convicted of treason and executed by guillotine. 9 months later, Marie Antoinette was executed in the same way.

    Robespierre, the leader of the Reign of terror, is executed marking the end of the Reign of Terror. His death was by the guillotine without any trial
  • (Nov) Napoléon Coup d’Etat

    (Nov) Napoléon Coup d’Etat
    Napoleon’s cop d’etat was when he overthrew the Directory to establish the Consulate. This led to napoleon gaining total control
  • (Aug) Napoleon becomes Emperor

    Napoleon became emperor under the name Napoleon I which gave him absolute power. Helped France recover from the Revolution.
  • The Napoleonic Code

     The Napoleonic Code
    The Napoleonic code becomes new legal framework. Made legal reforms such as instituting jury trials. The code also emphasized order and authority.
  • (June) Napoleon in Russia

    (June) Napoleon in Russia
    War that Napoleon launched in order to force the Russians into the continental blockade. The russian troops backed into the russian interior and Napoleon’s army ran out of supplies. This defeat led to Napoleon’s exile.
  • (June) Congress of Vienna Concludes

    The congress of vienna began in 1814 to try to fix Europe after napoleon destroyed it. The final act combined everything that the states had accepted.
  • Waterloo

    Waterloo
    After Napoleon escaped the exile Napoleon was defeated for the last time in the battle of Waterloo. This was where the British and Prussian troops were located, but due to his fatigued state, he made tactical errors that were crucial. This defeat led to his final exile.
