    Anthony Johnson (introduction)
Colonial Virginia was an adventure for everyone. The Africans were originally not slaves for life. If you said you were a christian, then after about twenty years of slavery, you are freed. This was because the English's religon was Christian and they tought slavery for life wasn't natural. Diminishing progress is whensomething has gotten good, but then worse. Diminishing=bad. Progress=good. It's an oxymoron. That's mean you take two words that are oposites and make a new word.
  • ACT X-Gun Law

    ACT X-Gun Law
This link is good for motre information on future gun laws This law staes that any negroe is not allowed to bear arms or be fined. If you were in this time in history, you would need a gun to protect yourself, protect your property, and hunt food. If you didn't have a gun, you could easily die. This was NOT good and diminishing because you need the protection and food.

Anthony Johnson Acquires Land (PART TWO)
Those quotes are fron a court case and therefor from a primary source. This is progress and very important. If he didn't acquire land and the corn he wouldn't be able to eat. At the time there was no minimarts or grocery stores. You had to grow your own food or hunt it, and corn was a pretty good source.

Anthony Johnson Acquires Land (PART ONE)
Anthony Johnson has been already freed and now he is acquiring land, a corn field. And the said Captain Talyor asked Anthony, "Are you content with what you have?" And Anthony answered, "I am very well content with what I have or words to that effect. And further not.".....

  • Anthony Johnson Goes to Court

    Anthony Johnson Goes to Court
Anthony Johnson's slave had been said to be an indentured servant, who shall be freed in about seven years, but Anthony Johnson said not. He would have to go to court. Sadly negroes were not favored at this time. So, he got a white man to help him as a "lawyer". And he got his slave back. This was a big "win".You may think, 'WOW, a former slave getting a slave? Thats wrong!' But at the time it was not. It is like today is everyone wears jeans, you would too, right? He
  • ACT IV-Bearing Office Law

    ACT IV-Bearing Office Law
This link is good to see the law itself (it is act IV) This law states who can not bear office in the colonies, and Negroes, Mulattos, and Indians aren't free from the list of people not to bear office. But, let's say you were already in office. Then, you would have a huge fine, and you would have to pay an annual fee. This means they can't gather to discuss laws to protect themselves. Uh-oh! That diminishing. Now, they can't say 'Those laws are wrong! We need to take awaay those laws!' They can only think it.
  • ACT XXII-Real Estate Law

    ACT XXII-Real Estate Law
this link is good to see the actual law ( this one is act XXII) This law plain out says it, all Negroes, Mulattos and Indians are real estate, property. The other laws treats them like property, but this law says it! Not just slaves, not just Africans, not just the people related to Africans, but basicaly anyone that's not an European!
  • Slavery Today (conclusion)

    Slavery Today (conclusion)
Now, in America, slavery is banned. But here the timeline shows how diminishing progress plays a factor. Nowadays, you may get a lot of money but somehow it all goes away. That would be diminishing progress. So, watch the new laws, and make sure you aren't becoming a slave, yourself.
