Significance To The Church: John at the age of 18 studied to become a Jesuit, but decided to join The Carmelite Order in 1563. After studying the order he believed that the order had strayed from it's purpose to serve God, so he tried to reform the order but this led to his imprisonment by The Carmelite Order. He was freed after he had been recognised for his efforts by his own Discalced Carmelites. -

Significance To The Church: St Angela Merici said "No" to the Pope when asked to lead the religious order of nursing sisters, because she believed that, that was not what God called her to do. She believed while on a trip to the Holy Land that girls with no education was put forth in front of her to act as a sign that she must do something about this. -

Significance To The Church- The Jesuits were a society led by St. Ignatius of Loyola, this society being approved by Pope Paul III was set up to educate the young people of that time and also priests. The were also with the Pope and vowed to be at the disposal of the Pope at anytime, to where ever their work was needed.

Effect On The Church- Martin Luther believed that The Bible and God was the only source of religious power. He wrote a document called 95 theses that was a description on how wrongly he believes the Church is going to seek God's heaven. He was excommunicated for this and after thoughts made a new church called Lutheranism. -

Overview: A disease that swept Europe from a ship that came from The Black Sea, all sailors aboard appeared dead.
The Church's View: The Catholic Church believed at the time that The Black Death was a punishment from the heavens. So people went out onto the streets to punish themselves for the wrong that they have committed. These people were called flagellants.
