    EASTERN ORTHODOXY

    Charlemagne's crowning made the Byzantine Emperor redundant, and relations between the East and the West deteriorated. A formal split occurred in 1054. The Eastern Orthodox churches are 13 individual churches that make one family. e.g (Greek Orthodox church, and Russian Orthodox Church). Unlike Catholics and Protestants, Orthodox believers affirm the Trinity, the Bible as the Word of God, Jesus as God the Son, and many other biblical doctrines.

    PROTESTANT

    The split occurred in the early 1500's when Martin Luther posted the 95 theses on the chapels door (the reformation). The movement swept across the whole of Europe and not much later, they make a clean break from the Roman Catholic Church and the Popes authority.

    LUTHERAN

    Lutherism occurred in the 16th during the Reformation movement. The teachings are based from Martin Luther who rejected parts of theology from the Roman Catholic Church. The Lutheran church is one of the oldest Protestant Christian traditions.

    ANGLICAN

    Follows the customs and practices of the Church of England. It started with Henry VIII (1491-1547) to over throw the power of the Roman Catholic Church in Rome. The break with the Catholic church was not initially over doctrine, rather it could be seen as a power struggle between church and state.
  • BAPTIST

    The first baptist church was founded in Amsterdam, in 1609, by John Smyth. The baptist churches mainly focus on the Baptism on confession of the faith. The baptist church apparently emerged out of the Puritan-Separatist movement in the Church of England
  • METHODIST

    The methodist church got their inspiration from teachings of the founder John Wesley. In 1795, Methodist became a separated denomination.
