    Protestant Reformation begins
    The Protestant Reformation begins after professor of sacred scripture, Martin Luther, disagreed with the indulgence created by the Catholic Church. He then proceeded to write a letter to Pope Leo, urging him to stop the abuse. He challenged the preachers to a debate on the topics of theology and indulgences. After engaging in an open disagreement with a church doctrines, Martin Luther he burned the papal bull of condemnation after being blocked by reforming the church within itself.

    Ottoman Wars Begin
    A series of wars that began in the year 1526 and lasted until 1571 between the Ottomans and the Hungarians. These campaigns were launched after the fall of the Byzanntines and served a purpose in capturing land for the Ottomans.

    A period of time began in the year 1540 where scientists proved that the occurances in the universe could be explained by natural causes. This period was marked by people such as astronomer Galileo Galilei who discovered the moons of Jupiter. This time period not only brought new scientific discoveries, it also brought conflict between church and science.

    The Catholic Reformation begins after the Catholic church is surprised by the activity of the new Protestant reformation movement. Action was taken and a council met in the city of Trent between the years of 1545 and 1563 to discuss the clear differences between the two religions.

    Witch-Hunts increase
    Due to many still believing supernatural aspects causing natural causes. Many believed that individuals could harness the power of the devil himself. This led to "witch-hunts" where women suspected of using the devil, would be executed.

    The Little Ice Age began in 1590. Although temperatures only fell slightly, its effects were great. Famine was rampant and crops had difficulty growing. Grain was required to be imported.

    The Thirty Years Wars proved to be one of the bloodiest conflicts in history among world powers. This conflict began due to religious strife in the Holy Roman Empire. Although this war showed economic decline, it also showed the improvments of European Militrary.

    The English Civil War broke out after King Charles I refused to grant parliment's request for the king not to ignore traditional right's of the parliment, which the king then refused to grant. He then ordered for the arrest of the leading critics in the House of Commons which then resulted in the beginning of the English Civil War.

    Anglo-Dutch Wars
    The Anglo-Dutch wars broke out due to overseas competition in trade. The English used their naval dominance to break upn Dutch overseas trade in order to gain back English dominance.
  • Enlightment Begins

    Enlightment Begins
    A period that began in the 1700 that was marked by intellectual enlightment. Famous enlightment thinkers were people such as Francis Bacon and Voltaire. These people faced political and religious opression due to their controversial views at the time.
