    Calvin moves to Geneva

    Calvin moved to the city of Geneva. Sooon after the city was so influenced by Calvin it was tured into a thocracy. The new laws in Geneva were very strict and violation of the laws lead to violent punishment.

    The spread of Calvinism

    Calvinism began to spread to france where it became known as Huguenots. Calvinists controlled one third of the country at one point.

    In 1545 Pope paul the third summoned church leaders to the italian city of Trent. The Council of Trent which met in three sessions from 1545-1563, defined official church doctrine with the same precision Calvin had used to define his faith.

    King Henery IV issued the Edict of Nantes which gave the Huguenots the freedom to worsjip and some political rights
