To get started, we'll participate in a short writing exercise and share out our results.

I'll introduce the demo by going over my research question, giving you some context for the lesson, and reviewing my goals.

Working in small groups, we'll read over passages from DuMaurier's "The Birds" and look for ways in which the author creates suspense.

Next, we'll watch a scene from Hitchcock's "The Birds" and see how he creates suspense.

We'll look at the list of elements of suspense students used, and receive student work samples to review.

In groups, we'll look at student work. We'll be looking for evidence of some of the elements of suspense on our list.

We'll take a crack at creating suspense, using the same prompt students had: Take an ordinary moment of your day and infuse it with suspense, using the techniques we've been discussing.

We'll wrap up by sharing out a prompt or two. I may also have a few closing words.
