North African civilization developed along the Nile River. Natural protection and its north-flowing river meant communication, peace and plentiful agriculture. A more optimistic culture than Mesopotamia.

Developed along the Peruvian coast. There was a rich farming industry and what seems to be very little violence. Elaborate architecture, trade, accounting and irrigation all distinguish this civilization.

Central Asian civilization based on irrigation agriculture and stock raising. They had an aristocratic social hierarchy, and rich culture as seen in architecture, seals and burial rituals. However, they did not develop a written language.

Civilization developed on the Indian subcontinent. There were elaborately planned cities with standardized architectural styles. However, there were no palaces, temples, graves, warrior classes, etc. Historians wonder how it was so organized without a strict hierarchy.

The Oxus civilization was relatively short-lived, especially when compared the China, the longest running continuous nation.

Developed on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, with an economy based off of maize, beans and squash. It contained elaborate burial sites, temples and alters. America's first written language can be found here. Most famously, it created seventeen colossal basalt heads.
