  • Battle of Tippecanoe Creek

    Indians territorial governor, William Henry Harrison, led US troops to victory against the Native. The battle convinced Indians in the Northwest Territory that they needed support from the British to keep American settlers from taking over their land.
  • Invasion of Canada in Detroit

    Invasion of Canada failed after the defeats at Detroit. General William Hull led an invading American force across the Detroit River into Canadian town of Sandwich. It costed the US the village of Detroit and control over the Michigan Territory.
  • Invation of Canada, Niagara Peninsula

    • The US military attacked the Niagara Peninsula but was defeated at the Battle of Queenston Heights. General Brock was killed, and the British military leadership was weakend.
  • Oliver Hazard Perry captured a British fleet on Lake Erie.

    The US fired cannons and gum shots at the British fleet until all of the ships surrendered. The victory gave the US control of the Great Lakes.
  • Invation of Canada in Ontario

    General Henry A. Procter and Major General William Henry Harrison met at the Thames River and attacked Ontario, Canada. US gains controls over the Northwest and victory over the British and Indian forces in Ontario, Canada. Many troops were captured and Tecumseh was killed. The Indian alliance was broken, therefore ending the Indian power in the Ohio and Indiana territories.
  • British attack Washington D.C. and burn the Capitol and White House.

    The British attacked Washington D.C. and burned down the White House and the Capitol. President James Madison and the Congress escaped. War of 1812 turned into a defensive war. Many buildings were set on fire and destroyed.
  • British attack Baltimore

    The British attacked Fort McHenry and American troops successfully defeated it. Francis Scott Key wrote the Star - Spangled Banner based on what he witnessed during his attach. The Americans killed the commander of the invading British forces.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    General Andrew Jackson led the battle of New Orleans and defeated the British in a one-side battle. Two weeks after the battle, the Treaty of Ghent, that ended the war in 1814 was signed but not delivered to the US until after the battle had been fought.
  • Napoleon's defeat in Europe

    Great Britain sent 18,000 troops to Canada. Napoleon attacked Prussians and British at Waterloo but was defeated due to poor decisions. Napoleon left France.
