Advanced Studies Timeline

By JMBrown
  • First Month (kind of) of Advanced Studies

This month, as I hope to write a book, I looked up names that would mean something significant to my story for my characters. Earlier in the week I wrote down steps that would help me to write a book, so I also wrote down the characteristics that my protagonist, Zoe will have in the story. I chose the name Zoe because it means “life” in Greek which I think is very fitting for my story. I also wrote a couple paragraphs for the beginning of the story, which I hope to edit next week.

I chose the name Zoe because it means “life” in Greek which I think is very fitting for my story. I also wrote a couple paragraphs for the beginning of the story, which I hope to edit next week.
  • Week 2

This week, in total, I have written about two pages. I did get to my goal in which I would edit today. As it was a four day week this week, I didn’t get as far as I might have with five days to work, but I think I still did reasonably well in getting what I wanted to get done, done. Mainly, I just added more to my story. Over this weekend I think I will edit it a little more thoroughly, and maybe make more notes, and then I can get to writing more pages.
  • Middle of September

The month of September seemed a little shorter than usual, with the flood days, and the fact that I was sick. I've added some good details into the story, and hopefully made it more exciting.
  • Week 3 (kind of)

Though I said in my last journal, I would edit my story tomorrow, that day didn’t come in the way I had expected. We had a six day weekend due to flooding. So instead, today I wrote more to my story, which is probably a little behind in the amount of pages since we had four days off. I wrote about 1/3 of a page which is not bad, not having written anything for six days. Thursday, as I’m sure we will have school then, I might edit my story.
  • Week 4

This week, I really only took two days to write my story, so it was not the most productive week. While I did write a lot on Wednesday, and wrote a little today, it maybe adds up to 3/4 of a page. On Monday, I just worked on my timeline about this class, and the next day I was sick, and the rest of the week wasn't too productive.
  • The month of September

By now I have written about four pages to my story. Some days I had Writer's Block, and other days we had off, but I have been making steady progress. I was hoping to have more by now, but I never really took into account that I would not write a lot every day.
  • Week 5

This week I worked on my timeline a lot until Wednesday, and did a fair amount of homework. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, I worked solely on my timeline and homework, not getting any of my story done. On Thursday, and today, I did get to work a little more on my story, but this week, I definitely didn’t progress much. Today, I probably wrote a paragraph in total. I couldn’t think of what I should write. So, all in all, this week between the writers’ block, my story didn't get very far,
  • Week 6

This week, I wrote a couple of paragraphs for my story, but mainly I got more ideas for my book. Yesterday was really exciting because I heard James Dashner speak. Hopefully, I’ll get to work on my story tomorrow.
  • Middle of October

My writing average per day seems to be about two paragraphs. I've also been thinking about what makes a likable main character, and I think it's someone that's realistic, and others can relate to. I've also been looking for more ideas to make my story better, and I have found some by looking at other books.
  • Week 7

This week, I didn’t write too much in my story, except maybe 3/4 of a page. I did get more ideas though, especially on how to write my story, and my style of writing to do so. Today I looked at Mr. Sanders’ website and looked at a list of the 100 best teen novels. It gave me some ideas because most of them are fantasy/fiction, like the story I am writing.
  • Week 8

This week I worked on the “Advanced Studies Personal Progress” sheet, and turned it into Edmodo today. I also figured out new ways to write my story, as in how to come up with better ideas for it. I started to write the end of my story first, so then once I finished the end, I would write the beginning so it would fit perfectly into the ending. I also learned about NaNoWriMo this week, and started to think about a new story I could write for it. I have written about a page this week.
  • End of October

By now I have written 7 full pages for my story. I also learned about NaNoWriMo, which I decide to do. The couple last days of the month I have decided what my NaNoWriMo story should be about. I have also decided the name of my protagonist, and on November 1st, I begin writing for NaNoWriMo youth.
  • Week 9

Today was really exciting because it was the first day of NaNoWriMo! I wrote exactly 531 words which is pretty exciting. I might write more tonight, just to finish up the page and get a couple hundred more words. This week I planned for the story I started writing today, which really helped, and I think will continue helping me, especially as I get further into the novel. I should probably plan out my character development more, but I think this week was really productive!
  • Week 10

Today I hardly got any writing done because Mr. Donald showed us Khan academy today, and everyone who hadn’t signed up for it yet, did. I listened to the tutorial on computer programming, played around with it for a bit, and by the time that was all done, it was already 9:10. However, I am up to 2,026 words as of today, which while it is not much, it is definitely progress. This week, in total, I wrote about 1,495 words this week. Since all I did was write this week, that’s about it.
  • Middle of November

By now I am halfway through NaNoWriMo, and since it's measured in words, my goal is 15,000 words. I only have about 3,000 by now, but I guess I didn't realize how many pages that is, because it seems like I have already written a lot for my NaNoWriMo story.
  • Week 11

This week in total I did not write that much, and I wrote the most on yesterday, which was heartening. I am going to have to write a lot this weekend to keep up with my goal for NaNoWriMo, but it is still possible to do it. This week all I did was update my timeline and continue to write my story, but finally I am getting to the exciting part of it.
  • Week 12

This week I got some writing done, but not as much as I’d hoped. One day I didn’t write any, but that was because I was doing LearnStreet’s Python Beginner course, which I finished twelve levels on to get a badge. I also talked to Ms. Darnell this week about another contest I could enter, but I have decided not to do it.
  • End of November

NaNoWriMo is done because it is the end of the month, and I have gotten 6,200 some words. This is around 10 or 11 pages on Word, and though I did not reach my word count goal, in a way I reached another goal. I chose to do NaNoWriMo so I would have a little more pressure to write more, and it worked! I wrote more in that month than I basically did in two. So I still feel accomplished.
  • Week 13

This week I have been mainly working on my timeline. However, I also talked to Ms. Darnell and decided to go back to my old story, which I added a bit more to this week. I’m glad that I know what I’m going to continue no that NaNoWriMo is done, and it should be good to really get into my old story again.
  • Week 14

This week I have worked on my timeline, added more to my story, and talked to Ms. Darnell about the Hour of Code. She also told me she will still send me emails about writing competitions, so I can still submit my writing even after this class is done. There was a power outage on Tuesday, so I hardly got anything done then, but the rest of the days this week I have been fairly productive, I think.
  • Tuesday, last week

By now I have about 8 1/2 pages for my story, The Half Dead, and I have also written 9 pages for my NaNoWriMo story, which I worked on in all of November.
  • Goal for End of the Quarter/December

Mygoal for the end of December is to have a good plot for my old story, The Half Dead, and to have some good character development. Hopefully I will be able to do this!
