    JAMES I BECOMES RULER
    James was intelligent and were king of Scotland for twenty years before he became king of England. Translated the bible. Chose to promote some incompetent people and got some people mad. Find money without consulting parliament. James was also allied with church of England and liked to anger the Puritans, like published Book of Sports, and encouraged people to play on Sundays. When he died, he left behind a powerfully divided nation.

    THE MAYFLOWER LANDS AT PLYMOUTH ROCK
    Puritans arrive at England and sign a contract to be treated fairly. William and his people got onto the Mayflower to travel out to ally with the Native Americans through the stormy ocean. While they were there, they harvested large amounts of corn and they called that day Thanksgiving.

    CHARLES I BECOMES RULER
    Charles I was crowned king when his father passed away in 1625. He was not cooperative with the parliament and used government money on himself. Tried many schemes to get more money but after the parliament refused, he tried t0 disband the parliament many times and failed, which led him to attack the parliament. That's what started the civil war. Eventually he was arrested by the parliament and executed.

    PETITION OF RIGHT
    Petition of right allowed more rights to the people of England. Was created from the parliament's major complaints against King Charles. King Charles had to follow it in order to keep his power as king.

  • English Civil War

    English Civil War
    Fight between King Charle's army and Parliament's army that started when Parliament didn't allow for king Charles to receive money, and act his ways -irresponsibly. The war lasted until 1649. Many of Charle's army were from noble families and were used to fighting and riding but they lost anyway because the parliament had a bigger army because Scotland backed them up.

    The execution of Charles I was done publicly after he did a small speech. A book and a few poems were written about it. William started to come into power.

    CROMWELL DIES
    sad moment for all of parliament. General Monk returned to Westminster and recalled the Long Parliament and elected a new Parliament. They restored the monarchy and the House of Lords and for Charles II to become king and no longer alloewd military dictatorship.

    THE RESTORATION OF CHARLES II
    Was crowned king when the parliament elected him in 1660. He tried to protect the religious freedom of Catholics which made the new parliament pass the Test Act which makes them supreme. Charles II died in 1685 and did not succeed the Catholic people.

    THE GLORIOUS REVOLUTION
    Was the death of Charles II in 1685. Jame's supporters started to leave England and it became an event. For the first time, the monarch was chosen by parliament. Mary and William agreed to terms of a new Bill of Rights and made the parliament official government of the country.
