  • My Birth

    My Birth
    I was born and opened my eyes to a new world outside of my mother's womb. I saw her face for the first time. I knew she was my mother from hearing her voice.
  • Infancy

    From 3months to 1-year old I would coo and smile when someone spoke to me. I would cry when I was hungry or needed changing. I knew when I was happy or when I was unhappy. Although I could not speak I was communicating.

    At age 5, I remember one of my first books read to me was The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. I loved flipping the pages and seeing the holes in the pages of fruits, vegetables, and sweets. I understood what metamorphosis was without even knowing the word.

    In the 1st grade, I struggled with telling time from an analog clock. Telling time was taught in the computer lab by a program. In the program, you could not excel to the next level without passing a test. I remember taking the lesson and test over and over again until I remembered the answers. I still did not have a clear understanding of telling time.

    In the 3rd grade, I began to write in cursive. Most of the time we did not spell actual words. We were putting a new style of letters together. I learned my first signature before knowing exactly what a signature was.

    In the 6th grade, I struggled with adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions without a visual. I did not understand what to do or change within each operation.

    From 9th-12th grade, I was proficient in algebra and geometry. Math was easy for me. The order of operations was interesting to me and an order I do not forget to this very day. I still recite the same acronyms I learned in high school.

    At 18 years old, I composed my first cover letter to a hiring professional on why I was the best candidate for the job I wanted out of high school. I learned how to create a resume' and had work history as a minor. I had to look back at the skills learned from my previous work experience as a minor to convince a professional that I was the perfect candidate. I got the job!

    At 21, I learned how to procure and balance company records.
