  • Old Order

    Social and political system of France, The Old Regime, remained in place. The citizens of France were divided into 3 social classes.
  • Meeting of the Estates General

    Meeting of the Estates General assembly with representatives of all social classes met for the first time in 175 years to approve a new tax on the nobility
  • Creation of National Assembly

    Delegates of the third estate proclaimed the creation of the National Assembly giving an end to absolute monarchy and begin representative government
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Delegates of the third estate along with nobles and clergymen who favored the reforms, met to create a new constitution. This meeting was later known as the Tennis Court Oath.
  • Creation of the "Declaration of the Rights of man and Citizens"

    National Assembly announces the creation of the document "Declaration of the Rights of man and Citizens". Became the basis for a nation of free individuals protected equally by law. Inspired by the Enlightenment and Thomas Jefferson.
  • The Great Fear

    A wave of senseless panic, had already began. Thousands of women rioted over prices of bread.
  • King and Queen fleeing

    King and queen tried to flee the country, they were caught near the boarder and were returned to Paris
  • Limited Constitutional Monarchy

    New constitution was completed by National Assembly. cReated limited constitutional monarchy. Louis had to sign it. Legislative Assembly, a new legislative body was created too.
  • Execution of King Louis 16

    King Louis 16 becomes and common citizen, tried for treason and executed.
  • France vs Austria

    Scared of the revolution spread to their countries, Austria and Prussia urged the French to restore the monarchy. Legislative Assembly declares war.
  • Creation of National Convention

    National Convention was created
  • End of the Reign of Terror

    After 40,000, the Reign of Terror end when Robespierre is arrested and executed.
  • Start of Reign of Terror

    Maximilien Robespierre, a member of the Committee of Public Safety, started the Reign of Terror. The Reign of Terror was a period of violence incited by conflict between rival political factions, the Girondins and the Jacobins, and marked by mass executions of "enemies of the revolution".
  • Storming of the Bastille

    A mob searching for gunpowder stormed the Bastille, a prison and symbol of monarchy
  • Abolishment of Feudal System

    National Assembly abolishes the feudal system entirely. This means the debts from peasants to lords were t be cancelled
