    First Crusade

    First Crusade
    The First Crusade was the most well known crusades that happened. It occured because of a war that killed 3,000 christian pilgrims. Many knights and peasants traveled over land and sea through Constantinople and eventually to Jeruslam. The peasants were not as well trained so they didn't all make it to Jerusalm. In July of 1099 the Knights managed to capture Jerusalm. This crusade provided more land for the crusading knights. If you died on this journey would be granted access to heaven.

    Birth of Genghis Khan

    Birth of Genghis Khan
    Genghis was born in the area around Mongolia. When he was nine years old his father took him to stay with the family of his future bride, on their way home they encountered rivals of the Tartar tribe. They poisened Genghis's father and killed him. At this point, Genghis now had the head position in the family. Also at a young age he started to build an army so he would be able to destroy tribes and then unite them under his rule. He is known for creating the largest empire, The Mongol Empire.

    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    King John signed the Magna Carta (The Great Charter of Freedoms) on June 15, 1215. This document helped set up the legal system in England. The Magna Carta also helped set up other governments. Some people believe this is one of the most important documents of all times.

    The Black Death

    The Black Death
    The Black Death, also known as Bubonic Plaugue and many other names is a disease that spread very fast in Europe. It raged from 1348 to 1350. This disease was carried by fleas that lived on black rats who lived on passenger ships. The Black Death killed approximately 30-60 percent of Europe's population. It took about 150 years for the population of Europe to recover from this disease.

    Columbus discovers America

    Columbus discovers America
    Christopher Columbus discovered America on October 12, 1492. He started his voyage with three ships (Nina, Pinta, and the Santa Maria) and a plan to sail west until he reached the Indies. There were spices, riches, gold, pearls awaiting there. Along the adventure they saw a light and headed towards it. This island that the light was on is now known as the Bahamas. From here more there were more adventures and more land found.
