Writing Timeline

  • Family History

    Family History
I have two Aunts that are authors and have published books. One writes mystery and romance novels while the other publishes children books. Writing is in my family and I grew up around it.
  • Learning to Write

    Learning to Write
I don't actually remember learning how to write, I just remember knowing how to write. Learning to read and write was very easy for me, almost as though I'd always known how to do it. It was my best subject in gradeschool and I loved writing almost as much as I loved reading. My parents read to me so often throughout my childhood that I loved to read as long as I can remember. By the time I started school, I'd been reading for a couple of years. This made writing much easier for me.
  • My first diary

    My first diary
When I was in the second grade, my family moved from Washington to Idaho. To make the move easier for me, my parents bought me my first diary. It was a way for me to get my feelings out and it gave me something solid in a life that was going through many changes. I wrote every day for years.
  • Halloween Poem

    Halloween Poem
When I was in third grade, my classmate and I worked together and wrote a poem about Halloween. We ended up having our poem published in the town newspaper. I was so proud to see my writing in print!
  • Poetry

    Poetry
In sixth grade, I started to write poetry. I had a book in which all of my poems were recorded. They acted as an outlet for my emotions and I loved feeling that I could convey emotion to others through writing.
  • Published Poem

    Published Poem
When I was in eighth grade, I published a poem that I had written independently. I sent it in to a poetry contest and it was published in a book of youth poetry. They sent me a free copy for my contribution and I was so excited to see that other people actually liked my poems.
  • Books

    Books
When I was 14, I started to write a book series. I always loved fantasy stories and I decided to try to write my own. I wrote out a full plan for a series of five books. I only ever got halfway through the first one. I hope to one day actually finish them.
  • Preparing for College

    Preparing for College
In my senior year of high school, I was in an advanced placement writing class. This class, along with my high SAT score in writing, let me skip past English 101 in college and I moved straight to English 102. This wasn't a huge feat, but I was proud of my writing ability.
  • College Major

    College Major
During my freshman year in college I decided to pursue a degree in Creative Writing. I learned that this major would be really hard for me. I didn't want to write what other people told me to, I wanted to write when and what I wanted to! This was a hard decision for me, but I realized that writing would have to be a hobby and I would have to professionally pursue a literacy endorsement with an elementary education major instead.
  • English 375

    English 375
This summer, I took an English class. The professor was a man who had studied English his whole life. I was intimidated by his knowledge of writing and I had to write many essays in his class. By the end, he emailed me and said that I was a very good writer and he really enjoyed reading what I wrote. This was a huge confidence builder for me and I am so happy that I might still be able to write well even though I haven't had much practice for a few years.
  • Editing Work

    Editing Work
I now work part-time for my grandmother. I am an editor for her company. She runs a business and I edit her websites and many smaller jobs that she sends me. I'm getting paid to edit and I'm more confident in my writing abilities than I've ever been before.
