  • The British are Coming

    The British are Coming
    Paul Revere rode from Boston to Lexington to warn the colonists that the British were coming toward the colonist defense at Concord. He lit two lanterns in the Old North Church to indicate that the British were crossing the Charles River (Schmidt 220). This event is why Paul Revere is often remembered.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    The United States declares independence from England. The Continental Congress met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to adopt the Declaration of Independence. Some of the members of Congress included, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin (Schmidt 374).
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    The Treaty of Paris was signed and officially ended the Revolutionary War. Britain agreed to remove all of their troops from America. America agreed to allow the troops to leave, pay all debts to England, and not prosecute loyalists that were still living in America (Schmidt 496)
  • George Washington

    George Washington
    George Washington elected as the first President of the United States. He had been the commander of the American forces, and an important person in the adoption of the United States Constitution. He was the President for eight years (Schmidt 72).
  • Cotton Gin

    Cotton Gin
    Eli Whitney creates the cotton gin. Eli Whitney was an American inventor to speed up the removing of seeds from raw cotton. This allowed more cotton to be cleaned and be used more quickly (Beck 636).
  • Northwest Company/Hudson Bay Compay Merge

    Northwest Company/Hudson Bay Compay Merge
    In Canada, the Northwest Company and the Hudson Bay Company merged. This allowed exclusive trading rights for the territory. This lasted for 21 years (Schmidt 174).
